Tell me something awesome about a woman you love in any fandom. Wax poetic. I want to hear people talk about what they love about female characters. And try to pick female characters or women in RPF who haven't already gotten love so we can spread it around.

And no bashing other people's comments!

You know what? I'm picking Boo. Yeah, okay, she's a very tiny woman. Who cares? She's silly and fun and adorable, and looking at an icon of her always makes me feel better, and she learns how to be brave right before our eyes. I heart that so much that I really wish I had the time to rewatch Monsters Inc. before I leave for work, but I don't, damn it.

Now you go. :)

EDIT: Guys, if you want to do more than one character, go nuts. The more, the merrier, right? \o/

Susan Ivanova. Tough, brilliant, and a total ass-kicker. Patriot, soldier, and the glue that held B5 together for a decade. Pushed a telepath out of a window once. Not to mention kept both Sinclair and Sheridan even slightly sane. Prevented a genocide by dying things purple!

Oh, and I should own this: I love Max on Dark Angel. I love that she's bitchy, caring, moody, kicks ass, and is willing to own her flaws.

I love Original Cindy, too, and OC is basically the Fictional Character I'd Totally Marry, but I kinda love Max more.

Two women I love.

Nani from Lilo & Stitch. She's trying to raise her sister after their parents die, and she's not really ready to be a parent, and she works so hard to keep them together and to keep their home. And then, not only is Lilo a stubborn, imaginative child who gets into crazy scrapes, but then her dog is an ALIEN and they are in the middle of this crazy inter-galactic situation, and Nani likes David but doesn't have time for romance, and all she wants is to keep her family together. She's amazing.

Eden from Blue Crush. She's the best friend trying to make sure Anne Marie doesn't waste an incredible opportunity. She's not afraid to admit she gets jealous, when AM is better at their shared sport, and she's not afraid to be the bad guy, the one who points out it's a waste of talent for AM to blow off the competition for a tourist who, no matter how nice he might seem, will leave. She pushes so hard, and takes abuse from AM, and still helps take care of their family. She puts her own dreams (her boards) on hold, shoves them into the wee hours of the morning, in order to train with AM, and work a crappy job to help pay bills, and to help raise AM's sister.

Nani! Oh my God, I cried like a baby when she took Lilo to the hummock to tell her the social workers were going to take her away in the morning, and ended up singing to her instead. Her frustration and helplessness was so realistic. Nani was awesome.

Oh, and AND Dr. Ellie Satler from Jurassic Park. For many reasons (she's super smart, not afraid to correct the men when they're wrong, incredibly brave, curious, dedicated to her job, upfront about her desire to have children, outspoken, and on and on) but especially this line:

"Look, we can discuss sexism in survival situations when I get back."

Dude, she is not even shaken by Hammond's sexist idea that he should be the one to go because he is a man (even if he is, you know, older and not entirely healthy). She's going to take care of business, and they can discuss his stupid idea later.

Too many to count, but I will go with:

- Aeryn Sun, who is just... *flails* the ultimate kicker of asses and personification of strength. She shoots the shit out of people while giving birth. How hardcore is that?

- Granny Weatherwax. She would have been the most terrifying wicked witch who ever lived if she didn't have the willpower to turn it around. She drinks tea like Clint Eastwood smokes cigars. Favourite moment from Carpe Jugulum: "I ain't been vampired. You've been Weatherwaxed."

- Martha Jones. She needs no explanation.

Betty from Dead Like Me. She was so genuine and true in the way she lived her 'life'. Betty really helped bring George fully into the Reaper world.

And Daisy from DLM as well. The way various facets of her character are revealed throughout the show is brilliant. She's a real bitch, but then we finally get to see just how cracked she is underneath her perfect veneer. Beautifully written flawed woman.

Aeryn Sun of Farscape because she is awesome. She is a fighter, a soldier but she is also a woman who is so brave. She looked at the end of her own world and forged a new path, she changed when she could have so easily laid down. Aeryn always fought for what she believed in. And Aeryn Sun never let pain stop her loving John Critchon.

Gods, I love her so very much.

P.S. Because OMFG! She had one arm with a baby and the other holding a gun. She is awesome.

Kes - Lovely voice. Lives such a short life, decided to dedicate it to those crazy Voyager dorks even though chances were she'd never see them home. Loved the spotty little fuzzy trader. Was one of the first, if not the first, to realize the Doctor was fully human despite him being made of photons.

Rahne Sinclaire/Wolfsbane, see icon - Decades of character development. Started out as self-hating Catholic girl type afraid of her own shadow, not to mention her wolf powers. Scared silly at Rio De Janerio crowd of sunbathers.

Defining moment in Excalibur where, believing a young mutant to be in danger, she went barreling through town, despite basically wearing a skimpy one piece/uniform. There just wasn't enough -time- to change. Someone might be in danger.

Yeah, there was a time she lost her accent and fashion sense and went around the U.S. getting in bar fights but hells, she lost her home and mom to homicidal mutant terrorists. She's better now. Well, last time I looked in on her.

Dani Moonster; Rahne's best friend. Native American and -damned- proud of it. Helped bring Rahne out of her shell. Once faced down Death itself for a guy who pushed her around.

Zig-Zag from Sabrina Online: Runs an entire damn company all be herself, not ashamed to tell people it's a porno company, dresses up nice, can easily go from Serious Business to flashing the delivery boy.

Omaha The Cat Dancer: Whole message of series 'Sex isn't inherently evil'.

1. Kaylee from Firefly. I love Kaylee because she isn't as strong or skilled or brave as Zoe and River, but she fights just the same. She's unashamed of her sexuality, comfortable in her own skin, not afraid to show love and stand up to authority, and not afraid to stand up to men and tell them they're wrong in a job considered masculine.

2. Eretria from The Elfstones of Shannara. Eretria comes from a sexist Rover society, and somehow makes it work to her advantage. She's beautiful and sensual, and not afraid to use both to further her goals, but she also knows they aren't the only thing she has. She's smart, brave and tenacious, going after what (and who) she wants with determination.

I love Claire Bennet. Because even though they saddled her with West in Season 2, they still couldn't make me stop loving her for her sheer awesomeness. She's brave, strong, forthright, independent, loyal, smart, and yet still flawed and human. She's walked through fire, gone through some of the worst things a person can face, and she's still standing. I love her.

I love Angela Petrelli for both meta and non-meta reasons. Meta reasons: because she's an older woman who's portrayed as being both sexy and intelligent, and given significant screentime on the show--something that's all too rare in primetime TV. Non-meta reasons: because she's smarter than everyone else on the show put together. Because she's always got a Plan B. Because you never know quite what she's thinking. Because she loves her sons but isn't above using them to achieve her Machiavellian aims. Because she never apologizes for who she is. In short, because she is the Queen Bee and she Rules All.

This is going to be a little obscure, but I adore Amy from Freaks and Geeks. For one thing, she was a tuba player way before it was cool for a girl to play low brass. For another thing, she had enough self-possession to go to a diner in her marching band uniform. And she was completely adorable in it, too. She made a great match for Ken--she really brought out the best in him. They were hands down the cutest couple on television that year. Jessica Campbell is an awesome actress and I really wish she hadn't dropped out of sight.

Sarah Connor can save the world and make pancakes, and she's just that hotass at the same time.

Taylor Townsend is brimming full of brilliant, infectious crazy. She can speak several different languages and is made of huge brain and loving (if eccentric) heart with fabulous fashion sense.

Selene (of Underworld) got over her family issues and whipped ass with it.

Ana Lucia Cortez got over her grief over a dead unborn child and a nascent drinking problem so that she could hold a group of survivors together against all odds, even if she came right up to the verge of losing her mind as she did it.

Pepper from Good Omens. And Anathema too, for that matter.

Pepper because she is who she wants to be. She's jsut a little girl but she's so strong! And friends with the Anti-christ!

Anathema because she's upfront about what she is. A witch and why should she be ashamed of that? And she's SMART.

Mary from Secret Garden. Even though she was told to not snoop around, whatever. Big house in the middle of nowhere? I'm gonna snoop too.

Elizabeth from POTC. Because come ON. What she was in the first movie compared to the third? She has come SO FAR. She's a badass chick pirate. Ana Maria too. I kinda missed her when she left after the first movie.

Chloe Sullivan from Smallville. She's smart, she's stubborn, she's never really let her feelings for Clark mess her up (except when Kryptonite has been involved). And she's so awsome they're writing her into the comics.

And Sharon Agathon. I don't know what the fandom opinion on her is but I adore her. She was brought in to test Helo and fell in love with him. She put up with his bad reaction to finding out and even told him to "Shut up and listen for once". She was almost raped (and in an aleternate cut, actually WAS raped) and beaten. She had her husband SHOOT HER just so she could go get their baby back. She put up with so much crap to earn her place back into the cockpit. Athena is a very fitting call sign for her.

Nobody's mentioned Dani Reese yet, so - Detective Dani Reese from Life. Who's saddled with a partner she never wanted and doesn't talk to her hero-cop father because she realized at too young an age he wasn't one of the good guys and tries to avoid AA and forming emotional attachments through casual sex. She's stubborn and flawed and as fucked up as anyone but is also smart and loyal and so badass she'll stare down a man who invades her home simply because she refuses to be a victim.

A shout-out also to Lt. Karen Davis - Dani's boss and occasional agony aunt. A woman who'd like nothing better than to see Charlie Crews gone from her precinct because of all the trouble he brings, but is an honest, tough cop through and through even when it'd be more politically expedient for her to be otherwise.

All the women from Dykes To Watch Out For. Which is 95% of the characters. I can't pick just one. They're real and funny and flawed and hopeful and diverse.

Phryne Fisher from Kerry Greenwood's Phryne Fisher detective novels. She has no guilt or shame. She solves crimes. She drives a fast car, and flies a plane. This is in 1928. She saves women from desperate situations. She picks out beautiful young men and sleeps with them, then sends them away when she's had enough.

Joy Merriweather from Drop The Dead Donkey. She's the PA from hell. She released scorpions in her boss's desk drawer because he was rude to her. She gave a coworker a black eye for trying to break up another coworker's relationship just for fun. She responds to requests like "A cup of coffee would be lovely, Joy," with a scowling "Oh, wouldn't it, though!"

Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. She is witty, funny, and self-critical. She's able to change her mind when she's wrong. She's able to puncture other people's pretention. She's loyal to her family, even when they're in the wrong, but her loyalty doesn't cloud her clear-eyed assessment of them. She conducts herself well in a society that makes that very difficult.
