Tell me something awesome about a woman you love in any fandom. Wax poetic. I want to hear people talk about what they love about female characters. And try to pick female characters or women in RPF who haven't already gotten love so we can spread it around.

And no bashing other people's comments!

You know what? I'm picking Boo. Yeah, okay, she's a very tiny woman. Who cares? She's silly and fun and adorable, and looking at an icon of her always makes me feel better, and she learns how to be brave right before our eyes. I heart that so much that I really wish I had the time to rewatch Monsters Inc. before I leave for work, but I don't, damn it.

Now you go. :)

EDIT: Guys, if you want to do more than one character, go nuts. The more, the merrier, right? \o/

Garnet/Dagger from Final Fantasy IX.

First of all, because she was strong. There were never any doubts in her mind about what she had to do--she had to be loyal to the woman who raised her. Then she had to take the throne of Alexandria; no denial, no whining.

When she DID break, and my God, if you've ever played the game, who WOULDN'T? -- She was still with the others, all the way. And when she pulled herself together, it was all her. Her moment, not Zidane's. Like any True Love, he inspired her, but she was the one who pulled herself back from the brink.

And at the end, well, hell. She'd earned her moment of vulnerability.

Other: Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg. Need I say more?

Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII, who I hated first because I could understand all too well how her mind worked, and who kept challenging me and making me think even as I tried to settle for disliking her. So I started thinking why and realized that it was because she was a flawed, sympathetic being who also had a lot of strength. Then there was no turning back.

Lana Lang from Smallville, who I hated because I couldn't get a grip of her. She spent most of her time on the show more as an idea than as a human being, but there was potential in her that was going unused over and over again. When they finally started using it, the human being she was wasn't very likable. But she finally drew me in.

Buffy Summers from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who I first encountered when she had been torn out of Heaven and just went through the motions, and identified with her so much that it hurt. She was my hero for just living through what she experienced, and after catching up with other seasons I realized that she was even bigger than that.

Veronica Mars from her self-titled show, who was tough and bitter and as far from a nice girl as you could get. One might have even called her a bitch. She got a lot of crap for that, only never in my eyes. I only wish her own show had done her more justice than it did.

Amber Volakis from House MD, who knew what she wanted and didn't take crap from anybody, and was an awesome girlfriend to a man who allows others to lead him around. Saying more would be spoiling, but I wished so much more for her.

I would also like to second some love for Ana-Lucia, who was flawed and who screwed up regularly, but who, in the end, took responsibility of her actions and made up for them. That's a lot more than I can say a majority of characters out there, and I still miss her.

Alex Cabot from Law and Order SVU. She starts off as a snobby hard-ass prosecutor who wants to work with living victims because they vote and eventually become a world-weary vigilante (which sounds trite except she is way more awesome than that). She doesn't let people push her around and was willing to almost get disbarred to get justice for a victim. She also isn't afraid to snark at judges and actually got tossed into jail for contempt. In conclusion: WINS.

I loved Alex. I was so terribly bitter when she left the show.

Robin Scherbatsky from How I Met Your Mother because she's a
"sophisticated, scotch-swilling, cigar-smoking, red-meat-eating, gun-toting New Yorker" -in the words of Barney Stinson.

I love Robin because she's smart, beautiful and independent. She takes crap from no-one but isn't afraid to show her vunerable side.

I haven't seen any mention of Abby from NCIS, she may not have the mad fighting skills like Ziva but she is the best in her field, she's not afraid to show her feelings and lives her life the way she wants to.

Lirael from Garth Nix's 'Abhorsen' series. She grows up completely alone and an outsider and she manages to find ways to survive despite going through the depths of despair, and finds an incredible strength and resilience to fight battles she never thought she'd have to. She rocks.

Oh, so many.

To start with, the woman in my icon, Calpurnia Adams from A Soldier's Girl. She may not have been born a woman, but she had the guts to choose it, the guts to say yes to the most unlikely person, and then to deal with the loss and hurt when he was murdered for loving her.

Almost anyone else I could think to mention here already has been, except my first girlcrush ever, Viola from Twelfth Night, who is just awesome.

I think everyone should have crushes on Viola. She's the reason 12th Night is my favorite Shakespeare comedy, and I wish Orsino had been worthier of her, because he was just a bit lame.

Miss Parker, from Pretender. She speaks four languages, she dresses great, she doesn't take crap from anyone, she carries a gun and knows how to use it, she's sometimes a bad guy, sometimes a good person, she's gorgeous, she kicks ass, she's protective, she's insulting, she's scary, she's awesome. And maybe she doesn't have a great romantic life, but she does just fine without one.

Oh, wow. I'm so late to the party, but this is an awesome post and I can't let another page go by without a mention of Lynda Day from Press Gang.

She was my, and many of my friends', idol as a teenager and young 20 something. She was driven, tough, neurotic, caring, sarcastic, funny, cruel, intelligent and fantastic. In other words, an incredibly well-rounded teenaged female character. She was everything I wanted to be and occasionally still wish to be. Stephen Moffat has my eternal love and goodwill for creating Lynda Day.

Also, JJ from Criminal Minds. I love all the women on Criminal Minds, but what I love most about JJ is her quiet competency. She's good at her job and gets it done quietly and efficiently. And more importantly, she sees her job as important and doesn't have a secret yearning for a more glamorous role in the team. And can I give a massive nod to Criminal Minds for allowing the women on the show to have friendships free of bitchiness and competition. It's refreshing.

How did I not know that Stephen Moffat created Press Gang?

I adored that show, and especially Lynda. She was so determined and smart and generally fantastic.

Scout, from To Kill a Mockingbird.
Starbuck, from the new Battlestar Galactica.

If we were talking real life I could name a lot more.
