Also, all of the stuff I'm doing to lose the 5-10 pounds I need to to ... you know, fit into my clothes again. *eyeroll*
This is usually what I do when I completely slack off and need to get back into shape (or at least closer to being in shape than I am right now). A lot of it is just psychological stuff to toy with my feeble little mind, but ... yeah. :)
1. I can still have whatever I want, which means that I don't have to sneak junk food or anything. But I can only have about a cup-sized portion every three hours or so, and I have to eat it in a little bowl or else I feel like I'm still hungry again afterwards or I get tempted to fill the bowl and then don't finish. (Which, really, I should do anyway considering the way I never finish everything on my plate anyway.)
2. I can't have Pepsi at work. But I can have Pepsi and Cheetos while I'm writing. But ONLY when I'm writing. If I stop writing to play Alchemy for two hours straight I have to put them both away.
3. I have to pour myself soda in the kitchen and not bring the two-liter back to my computer desk so I can refill the glass. It's a small difference, but there's a reason there's still three bottles in my fridge right now. Also, I have to drink the soda in little glasses.
4. Oh, and I can still have the ice cream I bought the other day, but I can't have more than a few spoonfuls at a time -- don't need to anyway; that's usually enough to satisfy my craving -- and if I do I have to give the cat a spoonful of the vanilla ice cream from my root beer float gelati. Which I'm loathe to do because it's MINE MINE MINE, so.
5. If I'm sitting at the desk and I feel like I have to clean something in my apartment -- laundry, dishes, scrub the bathtub, whatever -- I have to go do it. Which, again, small thing, but considering I've had days off lately where I literally haven't gotten out of my computer chair for anything other than food or the bathroom, it's something.
6. I have to do something energetic every day off I have. I don't have to do it on work days because they're wearing me out so much right now it's not going to help, but on my days off, I can take a walk, I can go shoot hoops at the park, or I can put on my headphones and just dance around my apartment. Whatever works.
So, yes. It's mostly about motivating myself to get up off my ass and stop sitting in front of the computer all the goddamn time. I really wish I could splurge on the cafe right now but I really can't, but I may just do it anyway so that I have an excuse to go for a walk every day I have off.

Date: 2008-06-24 11:15 pm (UTC)As a recovering Pepsi-holic, may I recommend that you drop it totally? I switched to ice (cold, anyway) tea. It's not the sugar or caffeine that's causing the problem - it's the High Fructose Corn Syrup. Google it. It's fucking evil. Without changing exercise or eating habits, I dropped *pounds*.
And stay the fuck away from diet soda. Worse that evil.
Goodwill/Salvation Army/Arc/any thrift stores/flea markets help with this because you can find Mr Coffee Iced Tea Makers for about $5. I have . . . 3 brewers and 4 (or so?) pitchers because I'm anal that way - in case one breaks, if I have to travel, any excuse is a good one, lol.
I know your Pepsi pain. And I do still have it once in a while. But if I drink more than a glass? It tastes syrupy and it makes me even thirstier than before I had it. Tea is downright refreshing. And it's made with *real* sugar.

Date: 2008-06-25 03:22 am (UTC)That aside, though, the other thing to watch out for is alcohol, especially beer — the number of calories in that is mind-boggling. If you want to drink, you'll do much better to have either a glass of wine or a shot of something not-sweet (bourbon, tequila, gin...) and not really-high-proof.
I've lost about twenty pounds since Christmas (without having to actually go to the gym, yay!), bringing me back to where my weight should be, and I think your list sounds pretty sensible and not-too-painful. :)

Date: 2008-06-25 10:00 am (UTC)I also find that even diet sodas trigger my cravings for something sweet, so I try and avoid them at all costs. If one day i'm wondering, "Why the hell am I craving so much sugar today?" it's usually because the previous day I caved and said, "Oh I can have some diet coke, it has no calories right?!" Wrong, in my case.
I love iced tea too and luckily I like the taste of it naturally if it's not brewed too strong without having to add sweetners, artifical or otherwise.
So I second everything!

Date: 2008-06-25 11:37 am (UTC)I can wean myself off Pepsi, though, which I'm doing, what with the not drinking it at work and only drinking it when I'm writing and only then in the little glasses and only after leaving the bottle in the fridge instead of lugging it to the desk, all so I don't drink as much.
