Alright, I'm never writing fic again. I obviously don't take it seriously enough because that, right there... is LOVE. Pure, unadulterated freakin FTW made of awesome LOVE.

Go you... I wish I was that organised.

Oh oh OH! If I give you my thesis title and project overview, can you do that with my PhD???? :D

I'm really curious as to how you've organized your writing wall... is it chapters down the left hand side and characters across?

Oh, the column all the way on the left is short summaries of the first twelve chapters, which I already have done. All the white slips of paper are scenes and bits of dialogue that I just sort of wrote down on the fly. I printed them out, put them in order, taped them up, and then started boxing them up by chapter with the missing action written in around them.

Once I've got all of them all done and organized -- it just works better for me to see something huge up on a wall like that -- I copy it all into a notebook so that I know which scenes I still need to write. I usually end up writing the dialogue for each scene first, since it's the easiest way for me to follow it, and then going back and filling in the action later. If I can get back into the habit of going to the coffee shop after work again I can get all of the dialogue written in the next couple of weeks and then set aside a couple of weekends in August to be a shut-in and fill in all the action. :)

wowow.

I usually start with dialogue too, but my writing is in chunks - situation/chapter by situation/chapter. Then I write a timeline of action/events.

Bear in mind I've not yet FINISHED a novel using this method.

The only one I've finished is one I wrote for Nano, where I started with the first sentence and just wrote... it was amazing what the creative spirit manages... I don't think I could have worked out the twists and turns that just came to the page.

Julia Cameron said it best... Have faith, your story knows what needs to be told, just pick up your pen and WRITE.

Man that's cool! I tried that once. Still have it somewhere *looks around*.

If its not too much trouble, could you explain how you write the dialog first? I always write in chunks and I HATE writing dialog but your concept interests me....and seriously anything that could help me get closer to actually finishing a novel would be stellar.
