Vanity Fair spoofs that controversial New Yorker cover.

Heeeeee.

I don't really want to talk about the whole Laura Hale bullshit, because just thinking about it is enough to make my brain throb ominously, but I will say this -- how can someone claim to know fandom so well and then dick with them? Pissing off a group of smart well-educated people with money to burn whose reactionary behavior is so well-known you're planning on using FW as advertising? Yeah, that'll turn out well. *eye roll*

According to Michael Savage, your autistic child is really just a brat you can't handle.

... yeah. He's just a douchebag looking for attention like always, of course, but that one's pretty goddamn special right there.

To honor Estelle Getty, Lifetime's having a Golden Girls marathon this Friday.

I watched the hell out of Golden Girls when I was a kid. That and Designing Women were my requisite two shows my parents could not fucking understand why their 10-15 year old watched them.

The cartoons, they got, but those? WTF, kid. I mean, they loved them as well, but I don't think they ever expected me to discover them and enjoy them on my own.

Whatever. I still wanna be Maude when I grow up.

The New Yorker cover illustrated false things about Obama (that he is a Muslim, a terrorist, etc.). The Vanity Fair cover might be the same illustration style, but it doesn't have the same negative impact because McCain is, in fact, old and his wife did actually have a problem with pills.

So it doesn't really work for me. It spoofs the illustration and the style but not the content or why the original was so controversial.

Or maybe I'm just annoyed that the only negative things said about McCain are at least true while Obama has to combat damaging lies.

Oh, yeah, I'll agree with all of that. I will give them credit for trying, at least, considering it's been a week or so and I haven't seen any attempt at a spoof yet.

No idea who this Laura Hale chick is but, personally, VF's cover doesn't seem NEARLY as insulting as NY's was.

And the autistic thing makes me mad enough as just a descriptive link that I don't even want to attempt to read the article.

The good news is that he's losing stations and advertisers because of it. With luck, that pothead will have to resort to more traditional means of finding the next dimebag.

Yeah...people at work are looking to roast Michael Savage on a spit. One of our Autism Specialists was ranting about it at lunch.

I need to set up my DVR to record on Friday, thanks for letting me know! I loved Golden Girls growing up.
