Dear American Government,

Shut up.

I don't care if the terrorists are planning to fill my stockings with C-4 and line the underside of the bus taking me home with dynamite. And I'm sick and tired of terror alerts like you wouldn't believe. You know, if you keep screaming that the sky is falling, pretty soon even the really moronic people are going to need to actually see something falling before they'll buy your bullshit anymore.

All this terror alert crap doesn't make me afraid of terrorists, it makes me disgusted with you.

But your scare tactics aren't aimed at people like me, now, are they? *eye roll*

Sincerely,

Me

P.S. Wasn't capturing Saddam supposed to solve all our problems with terrorism? Oh, wait, I forgot about (insert name of country full of brown people, as per favorite George Carlin skit).

Have you heard the news from the British press that it was actually the Kurds who captured Saddam? And then drugged him and left him with a neat little bow for us.

See, everyone gets into the spirit of Christmas.

"Terror Alerts" are supposed to make us believe that the Government is doing something in the name of "Homeland Security" to protect us.

I know that personally I feel so much better knowing that there is the possibility that terrorists could possibly planning to hurt us by land, air or sea in the US or in another country.

And that by raising the threat level to orange during the holiday season they can create more delays to air travel by keeping all parking areas far away from the terminals (because we know that a terrorist would not just drive through the drop off slot and blow his vehicle up there) and strip searching little old grandmas who are carrying dangerous fruit cakes.

Two things:

1) I never heard anyone indicate in anyway that capturing Saddam was supposed to stop terrorism.

2) The second we declare 'this group of people will never be searched at the airport', people with malice in mind will look for patsies among that specific group

Very good point. Hadn't thought about that.

The world will never be free of terror, as long as there still are brown people who don't owe us money. :)

Or brown people from oil-producing nations. Nope, can't forget about the oil...

Thank you. THANK you. You say it better than I ever manage to.

It is frightening how often you speak for us all

Just remember they have Saddam so now you can rest easy. Paronia, shit I'm giving up healthy paronia for the New Years. After all Bush says we are all safe so it must be so. Pray we aren't so busy looking at the alert level and concentrating on past history that we see what's coming at us next. Learning from history is one thing dwelling on it to the exclusion of all else is what got us in to this situation in the first place.

I thought alert levels were supposed to not scare the public but tell law enforcement officers what to be on the lookout for.

I, for one, appreciate the goverment indicating that they believe there's an increased risk of attack on such and such a date.

My favorite is how they keep talking about increased security in New York City (which I live near) because of the (cue obnoxious broadcaster voice) "heightened state of alert this holiday season"
Umm, excuse me, but New York has been code orange since they started the Crayola warnings. So, why would they change anything???
-sigh- pass the nog.
