John McCain suspends his presidential campaign due to the current economic crisis, suggests Obama do the same.

Yes, because I'm sure what Congress is really desperately in need of to solve this problem is for two senators who've spent the last year running for president to show up. That's what they've been missing. Not a more detailed plan, something vaguely resembling actual oversight, and maybe more than ten fucking minutes before the session ends to figure out what the hell to do.

EDIT: "It's my belief that this is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who in approximately 40 days will be responsible for dealing with this mess," Obama said in a news conference in Clearwater, Fla. "It's going to be part of the president's job to deal with more than one thing at once."

YES, THIS. I want a president who's not only willing but able to multi-task. I don't think I'm asking for anything too complicated here.

Last night at the fair I won a Beanie Baby fox. I just took it out of the bag it was in and threw it in Otis's direction, fully expecting him to ignore me and it.

He's just spent the past fifteen minutes attacking it as if it insulted his mother.

Yeah, this is a nice publicity stunt that maybe gets him out of a debate and otherwise accomplishes nothing, except trying to make Obama look bad if he continues to campaign.

Hopefully, Obama continues to call him on being a douche.

Did you see this MSNBC poll? Apparently the general consensus is, "Oh, for fuck's sake, McCain."

As a gentleman I know pointed out, if you can't handle an economic crisis and a debate at the same time, perhaps you aren't prepared to handle the Presidency.

In addition, given that Phil Gramm helped create this mess and is McCain's chief economic adviser, I'd prefer that whole Band of Misfits stay far, far away from Washington at the moment.

I live in MS, and the local media here is going nuts with the debate stuff. If they cancel it, there are going to be some strongly worded editorials.

I think beanie babies have weird eyes or something; my cat is fine with stuffed animals, except for this one cat beanie, which she hisses and spits at everytime she sees it.

That is such a transparent ploy that people who haven't even been born yet are pointing and laughing.

I like the note that Obama suggested they release a joint statement about this to show bi-partisan unity, and when he got back to the hotel, McCain was on TV.

Smooth move, Ex-Lax.

It almost seems like McCain is trying to lose on purpose at this point, doesn't it? We should be so lucky. :x

So far I've checked three different news sites just out of curiosity to see what their front page polls say. The CNN and MSNBC say that 70% think it's a political gimmick and strongly disagree with his decision. Fox News wasn't even mentioning the move when I checked, and didn't have a poll questioning it.

Do you have links to those by any chance? I've only seen Survey USA flash poll.

CNN's is on their front page on the right when you scroll down. MSNBC's is here. They're both hovering around the seventy-percent mark on this being a negative move for McCain. (Although if you want to get detailed, MSNBC's poll says that seventy percent strongly disagree and almost ten percent just disagree, which makes it worse.)

CNN's is that Quick Vote where you can vote more than once. MSNBC's won't let you without more than one email.

Well, if Obama wins, think of the endless crap he'll have a deal with. In a way, it's a win-win for the Republicans.

I'd want to be Michelle even if she didn't get to do that. Michelle = awesome.

If McCain is calling for the presidential campaigns to be suspended, are the psuedoRepublicans going to call for the current presidency to be extended during this crisis?

(I have a "Palpatine for President" bumper sticker all ready for action...)

And someone else on my flist pointed out something about an Army unit dedicated to crowd-suppression will be in place in the US starting in Oct.

I'm not pissed anymore. I'm scared.
