I don't cry happy tears over my country often, but that was amazing.

Damn it, I'm supposed to be writing. *sigh*

That's definitely one of my absolute favorites. I can sing that now and actually feel proud!

Man, I am SO glad I avoided politics before because now I am super psyched about it and not tired of it.

At some point, there will come a time where I can go a single day without crying over something election-related. And then the inauguration will happen and it'll start all over again.

I'd seen this video before and I cried then too. Oh god, the inauguration is going to *kill* us, isn't it? We're all going to hover over our TVs and cry the entire time.

"Through the perilous night."

I won't lie to you; that made me get supremely bright-eyed.

The amazing thing is I watched the returns with a few friends and after jumping around and screaming and cheering we started drunkenly belting the national anthem too. It was just the feeling of the moment I guess, that we could actually be proud of our country again.

That is what national anthems are actually for: singing to the pride and resilience of the country you love and live. I love this video so much. There's so much power and joy in that.

Hey, that's my city! (Well, the closest one to me.) Two surprises: that there's that few people in Pioneer Courthouse Square - it's only a ten minute walk from Portland State University, for crying out loud; maybe they were all getting warmed up in Starbucks (the videographer is clearly hanging onto the backside of the Starbucks; I know the area well) - and two, that in a city so unpatriotic (being crazy, West Coast, liberal, San Francisco North wannabe), there were enough people who actually knew the lyrics to keep going to the end of the first verse.
