Showtime's turning Perry Moore's Hero into a series?!

Oh, and also ... I still have a job. The usual sucky demeaning energy-depleting waste of a job, but I still have it.

On one hand, I'm thrilled, because that book, to me, is the quintessential superhero book, right up there with Watchmen, and Identity Crisis, and Kingdom Come, which are the three comics that I have not just enjoyed, but have made me think.

On the other hand, I'm terrified they're going to fuck it up, because as much as I've been enjoying True Blood on a shallow level, that is not the series, and not even close to the characters, I've loved since the first book came out. It's almost a parody of the book series.

On the (third?) hand, it's on Showtime, not HBO. Showtime has less of a chip on their shoulder about throwing in sex and violence just to be "edgy," and spends a lot more time building characters instead of manufacturing drama. If they just spend one season, or *maybe* two, covering the events of the book and don't leave it open-ended just so they can keep the series going and make more cash... Yeah, I can see it. It could be really fantastic.
