Here is the newest craptastic photo of Halle Berry as Catwoman.

You want to know what makes that photo look a million times stupider?

Exactly how is it possible to make every wrong decision about a movie ever? Sheesh. Although I have to admit, I think I adore the Jersey Girl trailer. I even like Liv Tyler in it, which says something. (And that something is probably, "Wheeeeeeeeee! J.Lo dies in the first fifteen minutes!" You just know that scene will get a standing ovation.) And that little girl is incredibly cute.

The sad thing is that I agree, even though I always thought Michelle's costume was a little stupid, with the white stitching. (I do actually like Halle's mask better. What a waste, with her body and the rest of the costume.)

The white stitching [and the way she looked while sewing it] seemed to me an indication that Selina's little elevator was now skipping floors and didn't quite make the penthouse anymore. So yes, while it looked silly, it also illustrated that she wasn't quite all there anymore in a way different from Batman not being quite all there anymore.

...but yes, she still rocks this new Catwoman's socks...er, stupid toeless stiletto boots.

Mind you, I have a hatred for Halle Berry that seethes like the heart of an evil star. That seethes like [livejournal.com profile] trollprincess loathing for Dubya. So even if this was the best costume in the world, the best thing I could say about it was that it needs to go on Michelle Pfeiffer or someone else with talent.

I guess, having taken a couple years of sewing in 4-H, I just can't fathom sloppy sewing. Regardless of mental state. {g}

So, why the Halle hatred? I know zip about her.

Thank you! My grandmother taught me to sew when I was little, so that by the time I got to home ec in high school, I made the shorts it was supposed to take us a semester's worth of classes to make in an afternoon and spent the rest of it putting together these very comfy overalls and a purse.

Looking at that costume makes my internal seamstress cringe. It looks like she stole a decent dominatrix costume, then slashed it up to disguise it so no one would ever know. At least Michelle's Catwoman look like she put her costume together with some finesse.

(Oh, and on a personal note, while I think she's gorgeous and did well in "Monster's Ball", I don't like her much, either. Her "But I won an Oscar!" snotty behavior on the X2 set didn't win me over, either. Anna Paquin won one and Ian got nominated, so her posturing was bullshit.)

Oh yeah?

We might be neck'n'neck on this one. I had to deliver the Entertainment Weekly issue yesterday. I felt sorry for every poor sod who got a copy and immediately went blind after looking at the cover. I winced every time I accidentally saw one while pulling down the mail. I worked up the nerve to skim the article underneath the horrendous interior pic. What I remember:

Halle brings a real pathos to the character....
We're glad we found an actor with the real talent for the role....
(Stop laughing! It said stuff like that)
We're not saying this is Catwoman...
Hahahahahaha. See? The admitted it.

Finally the pain I experienced (being a truly hard core catwoman fan, that I am, sam I am, with green eggs and spam) overwhelmed me and I was forced to look away.

First photo thoughts:
She needs to eat. Or someone stick an IV in this girl, and MAKE her eat.
They couldn't make the gloves small enough to fit?
What was the photographer THINKING? That lighting ... that throat to bust shadow line looks like she's been hit with an axe. And her upstage arm looks bent wrong, with the way the glove fits.
Then I realize this is probablly the BEST photo of the lot.

Second photo thoughts:
Now that's classy.
she probablly lost 10 pounds a day in sweat, though.

Nice cleavage. Shame about the costume. And the lipstick. And the overall fetish-porn look.

Question: Where did Ms Pfeiffer's hair go in that suit?

hmmm...i don't even really know what to say about that costume. i always liked the michelle pfeiffer one, but this new one is no good at all. i can only hope that it will work well in the movie somehow. dammit. i had such high hopes for it too!

Hee! Before I clicked through the cut-tags, I assumed the first photo would be the front view of this ghastly costume (page 3 of EW 1-23/30-04), and the second photo would be the back view (page 5). Because in this case, the answer to the eternal question, "Honey, do these pants make my butt look big?" is "YES!" So not flattering.

I would post a comment on the suit, but Halle's bony shoulder cut my eyes so I didn't really get a good look.

(Hope you don't mind, I got here from my friendsfriends list)

My eyes! My eyes! WTF? I've always liked Halle. I think she's gorgeous. But this is ... wrong.

Just. Wrong.

The cleavage, the claws, the heels. I could try and find more things but I really don't want to look anymore.

And you're right. We already have Michelle's idea on our mind, even when her outfit didn't help much, her physiology is just right. They can't even begin to compare.

That costume is ridiculous, and Halle Berry is ridiculous. I'm just wondering when movie studios will realize that her range is ridiculously limited, and doing comic book movies is well beyond her bounds. I would have rather seen Grace Jones as Storm, for chrissake.

As for making "every wrong decision" about a movie... are you talking about the whole damn movie? I don't disagree with casting Christian Bale as a young Batman--I think he has an intensity and depth that works well for the Dark Knight, especially as a younger man. And Ras al'Ghul is supposed to be the main villain, right? How can you argue with that?

Um, I think [livejournal.com profile] trollprincess was referring to the Catwoman movie. Not the new Batman. Halle Berry has nothing whatsoever to do with the new Batman movie, for which whatever deities you happen to believe in should be thanked.

Oh, jeez... I didn't even know there was a Catwoman movie coming out! And here I thought I was totally in the film loop--I mean, I know about movie projects coming out that most people have never even heard of (like Wesley Snipes as Marvel's "the Black Panther," or Nicholas Cage as "Ghost Rider"), but I guess I just wasn't paying attention to this one. Now I'm not only annoyed, I'm frightened.

I just automatically assumed it was somehow related to the Batman movie that I knew was coming out, and was somewhat excited for.

Yeah, but Halle's Catwoman and the new Batman are two entirely different movies. I'm actually interested to see what Christian Bale can do with it, since I can totally buy he's got the range to pull it off. And Ras al'Ghul? That could be fun.

They seem to be saving all their truly stupid ideas for Halle's movie.

Christian Bale has the range to pull off just about anything, so long as the script supports it. He and Gary Oldman are two actors who use a different accent and inflection in every movie they make, with the intention of making the characters all sound distinct from one another (and thus making them distinct personalities). He also puts a lot of effort into preparing for each role he accepts, so I'm sure that when the time comes, he will be an amazing Batman.

You think the outfit's bad? [livejournal.com profile] torchthisnow keeps a DeadJournal, and she's posted a couple of times on the script.

There's also a comment in the middle of one of her way-older entries:

We found out our screenwriting professor is unexpectedly leaving after next week to go to Argentina for a shoot. I'm kind of bummed, because I liked Vincent, but his replacement, Peter, seems like he's going to be pretty cool. He's worked on things I've actually enjoyed, and he's uncredited on a bunch of things coming out soon - House of Sand and Fog, for one, which makes me sooooo jealous. Because 1, I loved that book, and 2, Peter is friends with Jennifer Connolly. If everything he says about her is to be believed, damn, I KNEW my love of this woman was justified.

He also worked on Catwoman, and he grinned at me when I dug into him about it. "Oh, you worked on Catwoman? The one with PATIENCE PRICE instead of, oh, SELINA KYLE? The one where Halle Berry's costume is HIDEOUS?"

He just grinned and laughed and said, "Truthfully speaking, you're going to be disappointed with this movie. I'm not going to lie."

Dude, I already love this man. He ADMITS it's gonna be crap. I have respect for anyone who doesn't try to talk up his projects when he knows they don't deserve to be talked up.
