I only just woke up about twenty minutes ago -- I got up at three and couldn't go back to sleep until about seven -- so I'm sure I missed people showing up. But that's okay because I just saw Rahm show up, put my arms up, and yelled, "RAHM!" at the top of my lungs. Heh. I'm fangirling the incoming White House staff.

God, it's got to suck being Bush's dad at this thing when everybody wants your kid the hell out of office.

You know, I'm really grateful for my family sometimes. My mom and my great-uncle usually go to lunch together on Tuesdays but not today. They're both at home, watching the inauguration, something neither one of them usually do. My mom spent a couple minutes on the phone yesterday telling me why she liked Obama so much and why she voted for him, and I couldn't stop smiling for ten minutes because it wasn't all about how much she loathed McCain. (She did, though. Man, I thought I hated Bush a lot ...) I'm so lucky I didn't get one of those families full of religious conservatives. I don't think a conservative Republican would last very long in my family. We'd warp their minds eventually. ;)

I've never really thought about it about it but Jenna Bush looks exactly like her dad.

Oh, wow, the girls look so pretty!

I'm vibrating with excitement, you guys. Bush's presidency ends in thirty minutes and Obama's presidency starts. I was afraid I'd never see the day. WOOHOO.

EDIT: Was it just me or did Rick Warren get a fairly lukewarm reception considering the size of the crowd?

Rick Warren also got some boos in there.

Also, how awesome was Aretha's hat?

Heh. Only Aretha could pull off that hat. :)

When Rick Warren got his announcement, [livejournal.com profile] macnbc turned to me and said, "Well, that was 'polite applause' if ever I've heard it." So no, not just you. We thought so too.

It seemed like he was trying too hard, too, you know? Like, he knew what everybody expected him to be intolerant or strident and he was like, "Oh, look, I can accept everybody! In words, though, not in action!"

I'm one of those shiny non-believers, but I liked the reverend who did the benediction more. He sounded proud, his words were strong, and he had a sense of humor. There wasn't as much discomfort in him as there was with Warren.

Well I dunno about anyone else, but I was kind of weirded out that they had the first speaker be religious... Maybe that was it?

Nah, they've included religious speakers in the inauguration since the 1930s. And the invocation always comes first, so it's pretty much been a religious speaker first for a good eighty years now.

Huh, then I dunno... *shrug*

Nah, it was probably just Rick Warren being a creep. I mean, I really liked the reverend who did the benediction at the end. He didn't look or sound half as uncomfortable or out of place as Rick Warren did.

Yeah, the guy at the end was pretty cool and I liked what he had to say. :)
