So!

I have watched the first episode of the shiny new Being Human.

What I liked:

1. I thought Andrea Riseborough was wonderful as Annie, but I think I maybe like Lenora Critchlow a smidge better. She's quite lovely, and this Annie seemed a bit ... bouncier, maybe? More animated, I guess. Her breakdown was well-played and I liked the bit where George was rampaging through the house and Annie went out to the stoop and put her head on Mitchell's shoulder.

2. This Lauren is a thousand percent better. Better written, more interesting, and much better acted. That girl who played her in the first episode was a trainwreck who didn't have much to work with anyway. This one actually makes me want to ship her and Mitchell bunches and bunches, even though I like this Mitchell less (which I'll get to).

3. That bit with George running through the woods looking for a place to change was hilarious.

4. Also in the same vein, I love that it looks as if they're diving right into George meeting another werewolf, if the preview's any indication. It was one of the very few things that I really wanted out of the original episode and didn't get, so that's good.

5. The blond was adorable. I wish Mitchell had changed her on one hand, but he wouldn't be Mitchell if he had, so. *shrugs*

What I didn't like:

1. If I hadn't seen Guy Flanagan as Mitchell, I would probably like this guy better. He's not bad, he's just not the Mitchell who carries umbrellas when it's not raining and kinda flows instead of walking and gets in George's way when he's trying to clean, you know? Guy and Russell had this great Mutt-and-Jeff thing going on, and this is ... well, not that.

It's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, thankfully. Aidan Turner's sort of pedestrian-looking as far as "what kind of actor would you cast as a moody vampire?" (hey, let's pick the guy with dark hair and eyes and a penetrating stare!), but he does have some chemistry with Russell (not as much as Guy, but STILL) and personally I think that the fact that the actress who plays Lauren actually has chemistry withhim does wonders, certainly more than I thought it would.

2. I don't want George to be that flaily all that time. He's a dork, I get that. But all the time? I can't remember whose recap I read on ye olde friends list who said it would have worked much better with a scene like the one in the original where he threatened the ex's boyfriend, but YES. He didn't seem to have an in-control moment like he did in the original, and they could have easily given him one at the end of the episode when he was trying to find Mitchell. There he was Muppet-arming his way through the streets when they could have played up George following Mitchell's scent. I mean, come on.

3. I miss Adrian Lester.

So ... not perfect, but I'll definitely keep tuning in. I miss Guy, but there's nothing to be done about it, I suppose.

Okay, back to the writing. If I can get one more chapter done tonight, I'll be thrilled, because that's only another three chapters and then I am done, done, DUNZO.

I don't even know if I want to watch it! /o\

I liked Guy SO MUCH. There was just something really... different about his portrayal that I can't even explain. Something sorta slothful and all loose and lazy, except in his core, where you could sense that he was anything but. And the two of them were so sweet together! SIGH.

This Lauren is a thousand percent better.

Amen, I was vacillating between yelling "I HATE YOU" and giggling whenever she spoke, it was AWESOME. You kind of sympathise with her and revile her at the same time. Genius.

5. YES. I was so sad when she got Lauren'd. I hadn't been expecting them to do that.

I was so very much looking forward to a new Lauren, if they brought back the character at all. That first one was wretched. This one looks like she's having a blast being an angsty bitch. \o/

The first one sounded like she'd been written by Anne Rice. Fail. This one = amazing. I loved her psycho little introduction to Becka.

I didn't know that Adrian Lester wouldn't be in it!

Oh, oh...massive pouting right now.

I can't look at this new Mitchell and not see a younger Mohinder Suresh. It's very distracting.

Agreed on all points. What the hell is up with flaily weak prissy George? In teh original Pilot he was mesmirising when he threatened the ex's boyfriend - without that sequence the flailing got old very quickly.

I like new Mitchell's looks but preferred Guy Flanigan's characterisation. He had a real swagger that I missed and I'm deeply sad that the relationship between George and Mitchell is so different.

But I loved new Annie even if I do very much miss Adrian Lester.
