So I skipped out on Obama's speech and the Republican response because I was tired and trying to sleep last night, because I figured I could catch with Obama's speech today, and because ... well, Jindal creeps me out, so there's that.

But then I get up to find out he addressed volcano monitoring, of all things.

Jindal: "And 140 million dollars for something called 'Volcano Monitoring'. Instead of monitoring volcanoes, what Congress should be monitoring is the eruption of spending in Washington, DC." [05:25]

Um, Father Karras, I'd just like to point something out to you. This is the Yellowstone caldera. It's several tens of thousands of years overdue to explode. Last time it blew, the population dwindled down to five thousand people.

Dude, they can monitor that thing ALL THEY FUCKING WANT.

Just like how Obama got a $3,000,000 "projector" for the planetarium?

Science. They don't get it.

Hey, it doesn't matter if it isn't in the Bible!

*headdesk*

Nah, they don't read that either.

Else they'd see the discussions about charity being a virtue and the various kinds thereof.

And, indeed, they'd realize that it wasn't teh ghey that doomed Sodom and Gomorrah, it was such things as lack of charity and inhospitality.

Jindal was creepy. A friend from high school said Jindal was "channelling Andy Griffith talking to a nation of Opies." It's so true!

I especially liked how he said we should get out of this recession on spirit and not federal programs ... just like Americans did in the Great Depression! (Um, New Deal? WPA and all those?)

Well, in Jindal's defense (cuz I like playing devil's advocate), is there a lot of point to monitoring it? We can't exactly do anything to prevent it, can we?

Well, we can spend our last few minutes praying or hugging our kids or getting revenge on folks what done us wrong instead of milling about in a panic like those poor victims of Vesuvius.

No, but we can evacuate a hell out of a lot of people if we know it's coming, as the link to Nate Silver's site points out saved many when Mount Pinatubo erupted. And, theoretically, what would have saved many of the people who died during Katrina if the government had been more on their game.

It's only 140 million dollars. I mean, this is the government. A couple hundred million here and there is nothing. The taxpayer's money, sure, but that's only like $.50 per person. I think we can afford that.

Seriously. I have family in that area, they can continue to monitor it as long as they want.

Speaking as someone in the next state over, I completely concur! They can have all my taxes forever to monitor the caldera.

Our local paper today also called him an idiot, but we live in Washington and know a little something about volcanoes. Not as much as Mr. Jindal down in the South there, but a little.

GOD HE IS AN ASS!!!!
