-- So the job situation isn't starting out quite as dire as my last one was eight years ago. Not that one was dire, either, considering that my unemployment was so large it wasn't worth looking for another job until the last minute. In any event, I'm getting somewhat of a severance package (I've never gotten one before, so yay!), my two weeks worth of vacation in a check next week, and I can still file for unemployment at the same time, so there's that.
As for other job options, within a few hours Jess and I already had leads on a couple of options. Her brother said he'd refer us at one place, and her cousin suggested her job, since it's always hiring. And then there's my brother, who suggested his place of employment. Apparently the gun factory he works at is actually doing better than normal. As Bryan put it, "I don't want to say that it's because Obama got elected, but ... well." Lovely.
-- The most annoying thing about the layoffs weren't the actual layoffs. It's that as we were leaving, the four of us who were walking together ran into one of the day shift employees, and she said, "I've been here seventeen years ...," and we thought, Aw, man, it must suck to be laid off after seventeen years, and then she added, "... and now they're switching me over to night shift because they laid off so many people," and we all kind of had to restrain the urge to beat her to death with our severance packets.
-- Is it really bad that I think I have a better chance of getting published at this point than of getting a decent job? *sigh*
-- Yeah, so now I'm trying to get GPW finished and plot out the rest of The Hollow Girl. Mostly I'm plotting, because somehow I've gotten sucked into another ANTM marathon on Bravo, God help me.
-- I only tuned into the Top Chef reunion last night to see who won fan favorite. Yay for Fabio! I would have been thrilled with either him or Carla, so I'm happy for him. Oh, my Italian stallion. WOOHOO.
-- As for Make Me A Supermodel ... aww, Stick Figure Clark Kent. *pets him* Oh, I hope he improves. I don't want to lose him just yet. Also, the blatant homoeroticism and letting the biggest asshat on the show suffer a little gay panic (although I will give him points for getting over it and hope he turns into a Chad-style lovable douchebag) doesn't really make up for getting rid of the audience voting. Hmph.
-- I need to go buy groceries and borough stickers for my garbage bags and a Powerball ticket.

Date: 2009-03-05 04:58 pm (UTC)Yeah, I was at a gun store shortly before the inauguration and the atmosphere of concentrated Republican/libertarian hate was a bit overwhelming. Obama's comin' to take their guns! Stock up, boys!
That's right, bitches: I'm a Democrat and a liberal, and I'm going to take your gun with the power of hugs.
