A Texas legislator is waging a war of biblical proportions against the science and education communities in the Lone Star State as he fights for a bill that would allow a private school that teaches creationism to grant a Master of Science degree in the subject.

I still don't get what's supposed to be so bad about coming "from a salamander that crawled out of a swamp millions of years ago," as this guy says. Call me crazy, but a salamander would kind of be a step up from dirt and a bone.

My mind boggles at the assumption that creationism is somehow science. Every time this thing comes up, they'll offer the balanced education argument, but it's not a matter of balance at all. There is nothing scientific about creationism, because it's all ad-hoc research, trying to prove a predetermined point instead of trying to build a theory from facts and then test it by attacking it and poking it with sticks. That's just *ARGH*.

Besides, those people moaning about government funds are not getting it. It's not about funds or the regulation of the school itself, it's about having comparable standards for certificates that can and will be used in the marketplace.

*blinks* Sorry, I think this subject might be a trigger for me XD

I love my home state. I really do. But all the moronic, good ol' boy, shit for brains, jackass yokels who keep putting crap like this up is making this state less and less appealing. Another day cursing the moment I bought the house.

I read that article and got so mad I couldn't even articulate it.

Like, i don't care if you want to give a degree in arts/philosophy/religion in creationism but I'll be goddamned (pun intended) if you should be allowed to give a science degree.

Nah, go straight for the DD degree. I'll take your comment a step further; a salamander is head-and-tail higher on the ladder than being a Texas legislator, if this slob is any indication.

best,

Joel

I liked it better when MS: Creation was called Seminary.

My cousin went to a uber-Christian university and one of their degree programs was a BA in Domestic Arts, so women could go to four-year universities and prepare themselves for becoming wives and mothers. Heh.

Or they could teach, you know, facts, supported by the constitution and the seperation of church and state.

But I'm only a dirty immigrant, what the heck do I know?
