... that my strongest response to the swine flu news is a desire to reread The Stand?

Also, I really shouldn't have weighed myself at my mom's house. Ugh.

So it's sunny and my window fan tells me it's 90 degrees right now. Oh, lovely. I don't mind -- this is pretty much my ideal temperature right here -- but Otis is pissed the window is occupied and the heat always makes me worry for the chins, so. *shrugs*

I'm writing something that I may want somebody else to read later. Maybe. We'll see how far I get.

I'm surprised Scifi or USA isn't rerunning it. (I miss the scheduling guy on TBS with the weird sense of humor who used to run Night Of The Lepus every Easter.)

Better than what I'm imagining, which is Stephen King's e-mail inbox filling with people's notes saying "It's happening! It's happening! Check out this update!"

The Stand was my first Stephen King novel; I read it summer 1994 after I saw the miniseries. I was able to re-read the pre-revised version last year, because I'd found a 1988 edition from before King finished the longer version. (Then I found a 1978 Book Club edition with none of the revisions -- a surprisingly cheap copy, too! -- and sent that as a gift to the biggest Stephen King fan I know.) So my mind went to a similar place.

Stay warm and non-sick!

Have you seen the comics they've made of The Stand? It mucks around with the images I have in my head for the characters since I'm used to the ones from the movie.

Every time there is an epidemic scare in the news, I think of Captain Trips and cross my fingers.

Haha! So glad I'm not the only one that thinks these things. And this is why I love fandom. :D

Apart from the horrible tragedy and the yanno, demon from another dimension, I think I could survive ninety-nine percent of humanity croaking from the MegaFlu.

And a very strange part of my brain is saying 'Yay once we get the 'not-melting-in-Florida-summer' problem licked, we can read all the comic books!'

Evil bunnies is one thing. When the shuttle broke up on re-entry, Fox removed the showing of 'Armageddon', which featured the destruction of a shuttle. Instead they showed Aliens 2, which featured the destruction of a shuttle.

Fox is special.

Fox is very 'special.'

yeah, and I remember them pulling the Buffy Graduation Day episode because of Columbine. I think that was the WB. Because a student militia fighting monsters is exactly like a kid flipping out.

No, it wasn't Graduation Day. The episode they pulled was the one where Buffy became a mindreader and learned that someone at Sunnydale High wanted to kill everyone in the school. Can't remember the name offhand.

HAHA and I was just telling a pop-culturally isolated friend about The Stand last night before I heard about any of this.

I thought they delayed the Buffy clocktower episode because of Columbine. Because of course, it had nothing to do with shooting students.

Huh. My first thought was Outbreak. Mainly because of the scenes with the fuel bombs.

Couple of local high schools have had students come back from trips to Mexico with 'flu, though they're still confirming whether it's swine flu. The one I went to has 10 of 22 students sick. Home quarantine for them and their families.

Mind you, this is in New Zealand. Goes to show how things can spread with modern travel.

JUST THE FLU

It's too bad they already have a name for this disease. I want a Captain Trips or a Tubeneck, you know?

Swine Flu's just... boring.
