-- I have nothing to do and nowhere to go today, so my plan is to get as many words down on Heroine Addiction as I can manage. (Yes, I think I'm sticking with that title. It does work, better than I thought it would.) The most I've gotten done in one day is ten thousand words, but I'm certainly not going to have some sort of fit if I don't get that far. I would just be content to finish chapter ten.

-- The current situation with Chuck's possible renewal is that they haven't said anything official yet, but AICN and Ausiello are saying it's been renewed. I want official word before I cheer, damn it.

Is it wrong if I love the "I know kung fu" twist? I mean, on impossible levels ... that is the amount of my love. I mean, I know why everybody's freaking and all, but I don't want Chuck to be protected forever, you know? I don't want him needing handlers for the rest of his life, and knowing this show they're not going to suddenly make it THAT easy for Chuck. He'll fumble the hell out of that ability.

But ... yeah. There's a power imbalance with Chuck on one side and Sarah/Casey on the other. They're his friends by now, God knows that much is true, but they're also his handlers. I don't know ... I just feel like they have to shake it up if they want Chuck to eventually be on a level playing field with Casey and Sarah. I want the show to end with the Buy More Spy Team, the most elite special forces unit on the planet, with all three members being able to get themselves out of scrapes, you know? And while Chuck really should have been taking self-defense classes and whatnot since he started this whole adventure, they had more reasons not to than they did reasons to teach him to defend himself. (It would have been a neon sign to people looking for a possible Intersect, he wouldn't have taken to it well if it weren't thrust at him, they figured they'd get it out of him sooner rather than later, etc ...)

I also think in retrospect it's maybe a little telling that the kung fu stuff was even in there, since I imagine Bryce already knew boatloads of that stuff. Maybe just as a backup for Chuck just in case? Hell if I know ... to be fair, I missed a lot of last season, because I'm a jackass. *sheepish*

That's what Netflix is for, innit?

I just sent back a DVD to Netflix that's been sitting on my TV stand for ... uh ... four months. I'm not exactly getting the use out of Netflix everybody else is. (I'm not even watching stuff off the website even though it'd be easier. Eh. *shrugs*)

I don't think most people get the use out of Netflix they think they should be. I have canceled and re-upped more times than I can count, mostly because of those darned DVDs that sit unwatched on my player for weeks or even months. In the end, buying DVDs is the best, simplest way to do things for me.

I cleared out my entire queue the other day and sent the movie back, and now I have Wall-E and I have a feeling I'm not going to watch that again, either, because now I'm on a roll with writing, so that comes first.

According to one of the showrunners, the new Intersect had enough martial arts info in it to even improve on Bryce's skills. *shrug*

I absolutely don't object to Chuck being better able to physically take care of himself on missions - but what I loved were his moments of sureness and competence in the second season, which were all about his intelligence and ability to BS. Orion was a badass who rarely needed to punch anyone - I really thought Chuck was going to go in that direction. And I still hope that he hangs on to his pacifist instincts.

But I trust the showrunners to do something awesome with this, because they've done nothing but improve over time so far. Now that my beloved Life is cancelled, NBC had better freaking hang on to Chuck.

They had to shake it up and put the three of them on something of an equal footing if they wanted to get any character development going. And yeah, Chuck got a lot better at bullshitting over the season but he's still not able or allowed to take care of himself because he wasn't (and couldn't be) given those skills.

So I'm glad they've done this, especially since they're hardly going to make it easy for him to be Super!Chuck now.

I was really enjoying Chuck's growing competence throughout the series, but seriously, they should have been giving him self-defence training. I hope that Chuck hangs onto his determination not to hurt anyone, even if he can. The Buy More storylines were getting old - mostly because they now rarely tied in with the main storyline - so a shake-up is a good and welcome thing!
