apocalypsos: (tacky)
Hi, brain.

Here's the thing. The next time you so much as casually ponder me losing weight, I'm going to put on the size 6 American Eagle cargo pants I'm wearing right now, find a full-length mirror, and glare.

And if that fails, I feed you to zombies.

Just got back from seeing "Dawn of the Dead". Dude, the soundtrack ... *covets* (EDIT: Yay! Downloaded the lounge version of "Down With the Sickness"! Can officially die happy now.)

Loved the movie, though, especially the comedic bits. Of course, if you watch zombie and/or apocalyptic movies the way I do, all of the bits are comedic. And, uh, Terry the security guard was hot. Which is impressive, considering his hotness distracted me from Mekhi's. Of course, he wasn't as cool as Ving, but then, there are delightfully refreshing iced teas made at the height of August heat waves that will never be as cool as Ving.

I also bought the original on DVD and a horror novel set after a nuclear armageddon at Borders and joined [livejournal.com profile] hello_out_there, which brings my "We're all going to die screaming in a worldwide calamity!" entertainment count for today up to four. Which with my track record means I have to enjoy the total end of at least three more civilizations, dimensions and/or planets to fill my daily quota.

Before I ask yet another "Which song reminds you of ..." yadda yadda music cakes, this has been bugging me forever and a day.

Remember that show they used to have on MTV, where they'd show a bunch of people new videos and they got to vote which ones sucked and which ones rocked? I saw the video for "My Heart Will Go On" on that show for the very first time, which was kind of the whole reason I loved it ... because the losing videos, some of which deserved to get into rotation, faded away when they were actually pretty good. (EDIT: I just realized saying it like that makes it look like I liked that video. Er, no.)

There's one I remember specifically that I died laughing at but never saw again. I could swear it was a song by Goldfinger, and the video featured a puppet alien attacking what I assume to be the band as they ran through a space station, a la Alien. I remember loving the song, but I can't remember for the life of me which song it was. Please tell me it's ringing a bell for someone else, because this has been bugging me for years.

So anyway, the music question. Let's say I were compiling a music mix called "Soundtrack for the Apocalypse" in some strange alternate dimension where I'm completely and totally obsessed with the end of the world. (As opposed to this one.) Which songs do you think would make good additions to the mix?

And also, what are your favorite cover songs?

EDIT: You know, I thought I liked "When the Man Comes Around" by Johnny Cash when it played over the opening credits of "Dawn of the Dead" with all the riots and fires and death and whatnot, but now that I've listened to it over and over again for the past ten minutes or so, I think I'm in love. *swoons*

I forgot how much listening to this song makes me want to write porn, and lots of it.

Um, I just needed to say that.

EDIT: I'm sorry, but if I were called up for jury duty in a case against Michael Jackson and they judged me to be one of his peers, I'd sue the county for defamation of my character. And *I* think he's innocent.

And because my train of thought, when it has not lost its engineer, is usually being piloted by Casey Jones, I bring you Shaun of the Dead.
