... I currently have three paperbacks in my purse. And my netbook, my phone, my MP3 player, my handheld Sudoku game, and my story notes.

And people think I'm joking when I say I need constant entertaining. ;)

Five pages down, only ... oh, three hundred more to go.

... kill me?

(I don't remember being nearly this picky before. What the hell, you guys? *headdesk*)

Aw, man.

Some of you may remember that one of my mother's cats, Riley, had a heart murmur. He was a sweet cat, not really a people cat but cuddly as all hell. When I was at the house at lunchtime, I was playing fetch with Wilson with one of those little toy mice and Riley came downstairs, not joining in but just watching from the steps, perfectly fine as far as I could tell.

My mom just called. A little bit ago, my dad was in the living room and heard Riley make a soft noise upstairs in the hallway. When my brother came out of his bedroom a split second later, he found Riley lying dead on the floor. The poor thing had a heart attack. IIRC, he was only three years old.

I just spent the last ten minutes calming my mom down on the phone, telling her that he was fine when I saw him, and God knows he had a happy life in that house, and at least he didn't suffer, and somehow by the end of the phone call I had her calm and quiet.

I need to go cry and hug my kitty now.

I missed a bit because I was talking to my brother on the phone about him finding Riley's body and Mom's phone call from before. Well, at least neither one of us burst into tears on the phone or anything, so there's that. (Riley was a sweetheart, but he was more my mom's cat than anyone else's. The rest of us are kinda just really standing around feeling awkward while my mom cries a lot.)
