Jezebel has an article up calling Jennifer Lopez's stint as an AI judge a scam.

The article basically boils down to, "Yeah, she's famous, sold millions of albums, can dance really well, and knows how to promote herself, but she can't sing. All of the other judges have been waaaay more qualified, including Ellen, who was a music enthusiast."

Okay, look, I love Ellen Degeneres and her hot wife, and I'm lukewarm on Jennifer Lopez at the best of times. That said, "music enthusiast"? Seriously? With a qualification like that, my dad could judge AI.

It would be one thing if Jennifer Lopez didn't know she was a bad singer. There's not a lot of flash in her show because the singing's so fantastic it spontaneously Bedazzles a room. That said, you can't argue on a show where contestants are critiqued on their style, their flair, their costuming, their movements while they sing, and their ability to interact with and entice the public as well as their singing ability that J.Lo doesn't have a perspective on that.

Randy and Steven can critique the singing just fine -- and did so last night. My favorite was the guy who sang a Ray Charles song who was so good Steven joined in. I also liked when he pointed to the awkward and flaily but strangely endearing girl they were sending to Hollywood and said something along the lines of, "I am going to turn that into something awesome." Whether or not he's selling out, Steven's doing really well as a judge, I think.

EDIT: The Yahoo AI blogger's first post of the season is up. The gist? Lower the pitchforks and torches, you guys, there may actually NOT be a monster in the bell tower.
