Incidentally, did you know that scene wasn't scripted that way? Originally Indy was supposed to have this whole intricate sword vs. whip fight, but Harrison Ford had caught dysentery and was horribly, horribly sick that day. So he asked George Lucas, "I have a gun, can't I just shoot him?" And it's like, the iconic moment of that film!
