I'm watching Whale Rider with my parents and I'm reminded why I don't watch it -- because this scene makes me sob like an infant.

Kickass chicks sometimes come in tiny packages. :D

EDIT: Huh. My parents just dropped everything to watch the end of this movie. That's kinda amazing. :)

Oh, I love that movie. That little kid just blew me away, she's amazing.

I adore this, but I swear I can't watch it because I rarely cry as hard at anything as I do at that one scene. HER GRANDPA DIDN'T COME, DAMN IT, THAT IS WRONG. *SOBS*

It's heartbreaking, isn't it? I remember seeing this in the cinema and wailing like a baby. It's such a beautiful film.

I can't remember if I saw it in the movies or on DVD first, I just remember being absolutely wrecked after it was over.

I have no idea why I don't have a Paikea icon. She's all manner of awesome.

Oh, I just had to give in and wail when I saw this movie, and that scene. I wanted to physically fight her grandfather over that shit. (And then turned around the next day and saw her dad in Die Hard IV! It's like Netflix understood!)

I love this movie to an insane degree. I watched it every day for 3 weeks in 2007. So much love.

THAT SCENE. THAT SCENE MAKES ME SOB. I have never seen someone so perfectly act out their character's heart breaking.

God, that movie was amazing. I loved the scene where she repairs the engine rope.

Oh wow, I hadn't seen that scene for ages. I'd forgotten how powerful it is!

Also, New Zealand pride :) I find it interesting that this movie was so well-received overseas, whereas I come at it having studied the Maori language for a few years (although I'm white) and having grown up surrounded by the Maori culture. If it translates that well without the context, it must really be insanely well done!

I loved the movie and was impressed that it survived studying the book in...um...third form? Fourth form?

NOTHING ruins a book more than studying it in high school.

I love this movie so, so much. One of my favourites of all time. I was tearing up as I watched the youtube video! *grins* My favourite scenes are the ones near the end where they're trying to save the whales. And the music through the whole movie is just moving as hell.

I love it, but I don't watch it very often, either.

I wind up watching Lilo and Stitch, instead. Sometimes that's as close as I feel like I can come to this sort of power.
