New Hampshire legislators have approved a measure that would make the state the sixth to allow gay marriage.

This is the revised version Lynch wanted with all of the religious protections, of course. He's expected to sign it tomorrow.

EDIT: And just for that, a 15-month-old watching Adam Lambert:

He had promised a veto if the law didn't clearly spell out that churches and religious groups would not be forced to officiate at gay marriages

The man clearly doesn't understand about the separation between church and state. *rolls eyes* Still, it's done.

Seriously. You'd think they'd notice that their priests and reverends and whatnot reserve the right to turn down ANY couple that walks through the door, but hell, if they want the protection, let them have the damn thing.

I know, they can turn you down for so many reason. Whatever, now that the stupid have been satisfied, there's one more state allowing same-sex marriages. NY is still trailing behind.

Oh, it's not even on the map for Pennsylvania yet, alas. *sigh*

But it's Pennsylvania, not exactly the most liberal state of the union. *g*

Yeah, unless you're in Philly, you're kind of screwed. *pouts*

It's getting liberal...er, isn't it?

The thing is, every state legislator who isn't from Philadelphia hates Philadelphia, so if gay marriage is seen as a big city initiative it's dead in the water.

... eh. It always tilts blue during elections, but everywhere but Pittsburgh and Philly goes really red. I kinda feel like when gay marriage finally comes up, it's going to turn out exactly like abortion in this state -- contentious as all fuck -- and hell, it could originate in my hometown and STILL end up being seen as a big-city initiative.

Ah, abortion in PA. I perversely enjoyed those few years when we had a pro-choice Republican Senator and a pro-life Democrat one.

Honestly -- and I say this blindly without knowing anything about Lynch's political views -- I think it's more a case that large swaths of Americans don't understand the separation of church and state. I could see Lynch or someone else putting that provision in just to completely derail a lot of opposition from religious groups. Like, "Dude, it's spelled out in the law that this has nothing to do with you. Bugger off." Which, if that's the case, that's smart! Spell it out in tiny words.

But again, I don't know much about Lynch or how his mind works.

That vid of the baby is PRECIOUS. "A-DAM. A-DAM." And the awkward arm-dancing! And the kissies at the end! N'awwwww.

Lynch is a Democrat who opposes same sex marriage. I wish it was done with that motivation, but sadly, I don't think so, especially considering that the majority of the legislature was fine with it and was ready to pass the bill. *sigh*
