AGT discussion post
Aug. 18th, 2009 09:03 pmApparently I still have no shame.
Performing tonight are:
Hairo Torres
Mario and Jenny
G Force
Bri
Lawrence Beaman
Dave Johnson
FootworKINGz
Pixie Mystere
Jeffrey Ou
Marcus Terrell
Jay Mattioli
U4Ria Dance
That's actually a decent lineup, especially compared to last week. That leaves for next week: EriAm, Mia Boostrom, Anthony and Matt, African High Flyers, Barbara Padilla, Chris Allison, Erik and Rickie, Ishaara, Pam Martin and Viva, Recycled Percussion, and Drew Stevyns. Drew is the one we neither saw during the auditions, nor in Las Vegas.
FootworKINGz: Really great performance, fantastic costumes, and while that looked like a fall at the end, the rest of the performance was good enough I lte it slide.
Marcus Terell: Marcus. Honey. Darling. Peaches. STOP HIRING BACKUP SINGERS. These ones are better, sure, but your voice is more than enough all on its own. That said, these ones really are better, particularly the girl who was in front. She has a wonderful voice. Okay, okay, fine, you can keep these.
Pixie Mystere: That was fantastic. Aw, Piers. "I'm so disappointed. I haven't hit my buzzer once tonight." *snerk*
Jay Mattioli: I agree with Piers, which is nothing new -- that THIS was nothing new. He's endearing and has fun on stage, but it still doesn't change the fact that those are all tricks I've seen before, and all of the scarf stuff is too intimate a trick for a large room. And while "I don't have a million dollars to put into the show" is a good argument, Drew Thomas doesn't have a million dollars to put into HIS show, either, and it was bigger and better.
BRI: Before she performs, that was such a dumb question. And now that she IS performing, whoever decided the backing track and dancers were necessary for this needs to be SHOT. That's an AWESOME "Poker Face" without all the extra fucking accoutrements. Also, she's really adorable.
U4Ria Dance Crew: First impression? This is the first time since the beginning of the semis that I've genuinely thought a wild card could get through. They did a fantastic job, and that girl in the middle ... she's gorgeous. I kinda want to base a character on her, she's so pretty. (And can I just say, it's really obnoxious how obvious the show makes it that they do the choreography and whatnot for a lot of these performers. *sigh*)
Dave Johnson: *wince*
Hairo Torres: Uh-oh, Piers has bitchface. But I thought he was really good! My groin has sympathy pains, but still. Sharon has a point about him being able to do it on his own. I'd really like to see him audition for SYTYCD, but this will do, I suppose.
G Force: Singing "Hot and Cold"? OUCH. And you know, the playing is not bad, but the singing is ... well. I can already hear Piers' complaint coming. The vocals need work, but they're very determined little girls and I can see them practicing to fix that.
Jeffrey Ou: Okay, guys? THIS is why your show drives me up a wall sometimes. When the piano sound cuts out, THAT'S NOT GOOD. It sucks that a technical difficulty might get him kicked off. And I'm really tired of them knocking the performers for extra shit the show threw at them. Fuck, I don't think the dancers were Jeffrey's idea, and the dancers are the reason we couldn't hear the end of the performance. Urgh. I feel bad for him. He's so wee and shy.
Mario and Jenny: DAMN. They are very Vegas. I find myself wondering why they even need this show. They're wonderful, they've got fantastic atmosphere, and they really deserve a Vegas show even without this show.
Lawrence Beaman: Okay, ignoring the fact that this song is a festering cheesefest, he's making my ovaries sing. Come to my house and sing to me! His voice makes my tummy do flipflops. :D
You guys, tonight's HARD. Okay, throw out Dave Johnson, Jay Mattioli, G Force (sorry, girls!), and after that it gets difficult, because I'm not sure I trust the public to vote for Jeffrey Ou based on the first half of his performance but he could get the pity vote. I think it's going to be Lawrence Beamen, FootworKINGz, Mario and Jenny, BRI, and Pixie Mystere, but we'll see tomorrow.
