I'm horribly tempted to write a story showing just how bad Supernatural's in-canon treatment of fandom COULD have been, all things, con behavior, letter-writing campaigns, online wanking, and whatnot considered.

Instead I think I'm going to take a nap in my computer chair while watching the "Riding With Death" episode of MST3K again.

I can't believe people are still wanking about that. Well, I can, but sheesh... I thought they were shockingly gentle and good-spirited with it.

Seriously. She could have:

a.) Been three hundred pounds.
b.) Immediately stuck her hand down Sam's pants.
c.) Made some snide smug comment about those PERVERTS who write THOSE stories which she can OBVIOUSLY tell all her buddies on TWoP AREN'T true.
d.) Been put with another female character (Meg, Jo, Ellen, Anna) in the room specifically so she could spit on them, slap them, shoot them, whatever.
e.) Shown up wearing a homemade Supernatural T-shirt.
f.) Asked Sam to sign her breasts.
g.) Asked Sam and Dean how sad they were when their daddy abused them.

I could probably think up more. I just rolled out of bed, so. *yawn*

I know, right? Everybody keeps talking about Becky like she's some sort of blasphemy or something, but she was sweet, pretty, understandably nervous, remarkably restrained, said nothing bitchy about a female character, and didn't die horribly.

I was going to say... I don't often commend these writers, but thank you for showing some restraint for once in your lives, guys!

I forgot to add that they didn't make her a pervert, either, regardless of what she writes in her spare time, when they easily could have.

Thanks, writers! :)

Only Henriksen can pull off (g).

Although, on the bright side, if she had been three hundred pounds, we'd have had a little variety on the screen.

Really, though, while I do feel that they've jumped the shark rather with this plotline, Becky-the-character could quite rightfully be a lot worse. I think my only real problem was the standard television trope of "haha unwanted touching is funny", which was only presented in mild form here and made sense for the character anyway. (I don't quite get why Sam didn't just edge away from her as he's done in the past with over-handsy women?)

Plus, the GalaxyQuest shout-out made me smile (okay, while cringing a little, but mostly smile).

Oh, man, it would be SO DEPRESSING to write that. And yet ... *sigh*

Actually, that was just a quote from "Riding With Death"...I don't think I'd want to see that either.

Hell I've said this a few times, but the basic fact is that storywise, Chuck had to use a fan who was somewhat insane over the top.

I mean, what other kind of fan would actually believe him, if he told them that the books were real?

And like you say, they could have made her a lot worse. If Becky was an example of a crazy fan that Chuck could think of, then well... they let us off easy.

Not gonna lie ... if it were me, I would have been in Dean's lap before Sam even got a chance to say hi. :)

I almost want to say something that their best treatment of a female character so far was a fan... ;)

And "d.) Been put with another female character (Meg, Jo, Ellen, Anna) in the room specifically so she could spit on them, slap them, shoot them, whatever."

Don't worry, we'll probably see that NEXT week.

They made a Wincest writer look sane for an audience that, for the most part, is getting their impression of Wincest writers through the show.

You're right. They really treated her a LOT better than they've treated a lot of their female characters in the past.

I can't understand why people have such a raging hate-on. Yes, I know, "O.M.G. FOURTH WALL!!!" but, dude, this is the genre. Geeks acknowledge their own kind. In Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, some of the fans would get their IRC names on the ticker in the bullpen, and fen on comic messageboards get mentioned in-panel a lot more than people realize.

Besides, SERIOUSLY. If I found out Sam and Dean were real and I got to go meet them? I would SO not be anywhere near as coherent as Becky. And probably would not be able to stop touching Sam either.

One thing I love more than PIE? Is that while Becky write RIDICULOUSLY is that Chuck does too. It's not just the fic writers, it's the pro writers that use SOULFUL GAZES.

...Huh. My big comment, let me show you it. Also, now I think I need a Becky icon.

Yeah, I love the way Kripke & co. has embraced the fandom and let it feed the show. It's perfect, and appropriately meta, and undeniably hilarious.

I just don't get the fandom, really. I thought she was hilarious, and remarkably sane compared to some. Thought it was quite cool of Kripke to put her in there.

I just want to know how much of her story Kripke had to write, or if he pawned off the Wincest on Sera.
