Today is my mental health day. The rules are I'm not allowed to think or worry about writing, money, work, or socializing.

So what have I done?

-- I took the library book that's been sitting around my apartment forever and a day -- it's a paperback, so no late fees -- and then spent an absurd amount of time trying to find something new to read, of which there was nothing that struck my fancy.

-- I went to the cafe for an hour or so for lunch and sudoku.

-- I ran to the Chinese place to pick up shrimp with broccoli and came home to watch the first True Blood disc. Aaaaand then when I was done I slapped it back into its envelope and took the rest of them off my Netflix queue. I was so bored. I couldn't even bring myself to keep going just for Askars, you guys. I'm usually a sucker for vampires (pun not intended), but that didn't do anything for me. (To be fair, neither did The Vampire Diaries. Everybody in it is very pretty, but that's to be expected, so ... *shrugs*)

-- I told Jess I'd bring cherry vodka to her flavored vodka party on Wednesday. I'm not sure how enthused I'll be to go on Wednesday, but I'm not giving myself a choice, SO.

And now I'm going up to my parents' house to start the chicken for their dinner. For that, I get the extra chicken my mom got that was on sale for three bucks. And then I'm going to come home, get smashed, and take a nap.

Oh, my exciting life, let me show it to you.

Have you read Jane Lindskold's Athanor series?

Nope, but I can pretty much guarantee it's not in our library. Our library sucks balls. Stretch out my living room a good two feet or so all around and that's the local library.

Might you be interested in some eBooks?

I have an extensive eLibrary, and access to a huge number of DRM-free novels. Unfortunately, not the series mentioned, although I do have one Jane Lindskold novel on file.

Sounds like the kind of relaxing day off you needed, except for not being able to find anything to read.

I picked up the second to latest S.M. Stirling Change novel Scourge of God...and so far it's just reminding me why I gave up the series when it went from post-apocofic to fantasy.

The first season of True Blood actually isn't all that interesting and Eric really isn't in it all that much. It picked up with season 2, but I realize that it is actually still kind of terrible.

I was so bored.

Ah, that's the word I was looking for to describe True Blood.
On paper it sounds right up my alley but nothing grabbed me and naked Ryan Kwanten just made me turn it off quicker.

I, too, was underwhelmed with S1 of True Blood. But then I read the novels, and saw Season 2, and it gets better -- not *good*, but better. I have a feeling Season 3 might pick up even more.

I don't know if you've seen this yet or not. But it made me think of you.

You so very much captured my feelings fr True Blood S1, and for vampire diaries as well. Who knew vampires could be so boring? (We need more Buffy, obviously

Agreed...

I didn't like the Vampire Diaries as much as I had hoped. I am, too, a sucker for vampires, but it just had no zing to it.

As for True Blood, it takes a bit to get running off the ground, not going to lie. I read the books which is why I was so enamored, so it gets better through the season. The second season was just ridiculous...

... give it another shot?
