At random ...
Apr. 23rd, 2010 09:55 pm-- As soon as I'm done typing this I'm going to go see if I can bang out a thousand words or so before bed on my Big Bang. Here's hoping, anyway.
-- Aw, poor OLTL, their ratings are at an all-time low since they dropped Kyle and Oliver. Hey, look at the bright side, OLTL. You fired all the good actors with the interesting storylines, but at least you can still afford to keep Edward Scissorhands around to cut Gigi's hair.
-- Okay, so how do I make money on the internet? Preferably not without writing things for the moment -- I'm still wading out of a serious bout of writer's block, so my creative skills aren't exactly as dependable as I'd like right now. Surveys and stuff ... that, I can handle.
-- I almost forgot to add this: Jezebel analyzes the stealth feminist message in Just One Of The Guys. I love that movie SO MUCH. It's one of my favorite cheesy '80s movies. There's some seriously bad acting going on in there, but there really is some deeper thought underneath the occasionally questionable dialogue. (That said, I also loved Teen Witch, in which there was never anything approaching thought, but an astounding amount of cheese.)
-- Oh, and also there's this:

Date: 2010-04-24 11:58 am (UTC)Oh, hey, maybe you should stop pandering to the part of your fan base that's going to drop dead of old age any time soon and start attempting to draw in younger viewers with storylines more relevant to the world they live in! Just a thought.
Honestly, I grew up on soap operas but watching them anymore pisses me off. Not a one of them isn't trapped in the same stagnant niche market they've been treading water in for the past few decades, turning back to the same old plotlines over and over again. Which would be fine except they never give them new twists to try to draw in new viewers who aren't retired old ladies who find an affair with someone's "bad boy" brother-in-law titillating stuff. Their viewership is dropping like flies and they're not attempting to lure in a fanbase like, say, college students, who remain loyal to a show to the point where I recall my entire dorm getting hooked on Days of Our Lives when Jensen was on it. A few girls even scheduled their classes around it.

Date: 2010-04-24 07:17 pm (UTC)Oh, definitely, but the newer generations are definitely more open-minded. Not completely open-minded, obviously, but still.
I imagine they went with the Kish-is-making-our-ratings-drop excuse because people who are angry are more likely to give feedback than those who enjoy a show. So when they offered a gay couple, the homophobes promptly crawled out of the woodwork to complain.

Date: 2010-04-24 11:02 am (UTC)I don't know if these are any good to you, but
Date: 2010-04-24 11:54 am (UTC)Also onepoll.com is apparantly a good way to make money but it's VERY VERY SLOW. You complete surveys and stuff, and get money/the chance to win vouchers, and you get paid once you reach £40. However, there aren't always surveys to fill in (at least for UK people, don't know what it's like for other countries), and while they SAY that there's a 10p-£1 minimum for payments, I've had a few that're only 5p.
Those are the only two I've used/have looked into, but if I see anything else I'll let you know!

Date: 2010-04-24 01:37 pm (UTC)Surveys: Opinion Outpost is a great one - I signed up about a year and a half ago, and I've made $200 so far. It's 15-20 minutes a couple of times a week, and you can not answer a survey if you don't want to. The latest? I'm getting sent samples of a new frozen lunch product to try. I also paid for my mother's present for Mother's Day with the Amazon gift cards I got from them.
Other reputable ones include SurveySavvy, MySurvey.com, and E-rewards (though you have to be invited for the last one). SurveySpot is also reputable, but has much less paid surveys.

Date: 2010-04-24 05:43 pm (UTC)I LOVED Teen Witch. I had it on video a long, long time ago and lost it. If I could find it on DVD, I'd be one happy woman.:)
