So I clicked on the TWoP recaplet for "The Beast Below" and didn't remember until about halfway through that Jacob writes the DW recaps.

He didn't like it, but then I got to the last sentence of the recaplet, which ends like this:

... there doesn't seem to be a point to anything right now, just childish retarded bullshit happening and then the show screaming THIS IS VERY MEANINGFUL right in your face.

Putting aside his use of the word "retarded," that entire statement is impressive coming from someone whose twelve-page AI recaps actually stop recapping the events of the episode on page eight.

Oh, man. I hate his recaps so much. Other recappers were sometimes rage-inducing, but at least they were entertaining. And then he started recapping all shows ever.

I'm pretty sure it was him who did the Gossip Girl recaps a year or two back and made sure I'd never give the show a real try. If the highest praise you can give a show is that it's amazing because it shows that all life really is just like high school, unless you ARE still in high school there's something wrong here.

Oh, man, those GG recaps. He used to write those fuckers (don't know if he still does) like the show was a major component of his doctorate thesis. I liked GG and it could put out some really great writing on occasion, but there is no way it deserved the intensely analytical thirty-five-page recaps/love sonnets/tongue baths he used to write.

And now ... seriously, I wasn't even joking about the AI recaps. I'm not reading them, really, but I wanted to check out something about the end of the performance episode this week, started at the last page and ended up going back through three whole pages worth of him blabbering on and on before I finally got to anything remotely related to the episode. And even that's hard to decipher, since he spends most of his recaps talking about shit in this way that's like, "I was thinking the other day about how nuclear proliferation is just like the way Tim Urban can't hit that high note," which leaves me just kinda sitting there thinking, "Dude, if you really want so very much to talk about other unrelated bullshit when you're supposed to be snarking on a television show, get a blog. Or how about some friends?"

YES THAT. And the thing is, for me, recappers blabbing about whatever used to be fine, because I mostly read the recaps for their own entertainment value (especially when I was in public computer lab and assumed that unlike fandom, recaps wouldn't spring surprise!porn on me.) But he is just. So. Fucking. Boring.

And double yes about the GG recaps, which were supposed to be exatly that kind of entertainment, damn it.

Oh, nice! I remember when he quit doing them and quit watching that feed -- I'm glad to know he's started up again! Something else at TWoP that I can follow! (With Dexter and Mad Men between seasons, right now Nurse Jackie is the only recap I'm reading.)

ETA: Mind you, I didn't read most of his old Who recaps because he got too talky. But I do love what he has to say about True Blood and Nurse Jackie.
