... the one thing that stuck with me after occasionally pondering the Diana Gabaldon fanfic wank while I was at work today was that it's a good thing that as a fanfic writer I'm clearly not writing original novels also and attempting to get them published, and if I were I wouldn't be pondering things like how I already know there will be Davis/Anthony slash and that I can't decide whether Gareth or Vera will end up being a little black dress (ooo, how about both? \o/) and how I just know there's going to be some truly awesome badfic where Toby does a lot of OOC sobbing at the sites of horrible disasters.

Sounds like you've not thought of this at all. :P

Man, forget fanfic of your works, I've had RPS written about me (and not as a parody, either).

Why yes, I did find it hilarious.

Exactly. Imagine if the Founding Fathers had sat around sweating the possibility of George Washington/General Cornwallis slash insteada writing the Declaration of Independence! Or... wait...

Quoted from metafilter on the subject, because I think this is something that needs to be shared as widely as possible.

From the blurb on Amazon, the author's original hit book "Outlander" actually is fanfic. Girl based on the author travels back in time and shags Scottish Jamie from 1960's Dr Who. All she's done is changed Jamie's last name (which very few people knew anyway) to the surname of the actor who played him. That's even creepier than regular fanfic.
