So I didn't get the Wegmans job last week.
I got it THIS week. \o/
I just have to fill out the background check paperwork and then they'll sign up me for orientation. You have no idea how much I cannot wait to start this job, not the least of which because I'm going to start paying off my car like a madwoman. (The girl who sits next to me at work is betting I'll spend my first paycheck on a new MP3 player, since replacing my crappy 8Gb one has not worked out quite so well, but I want these debts gone more than I want all of my music on one player.)
YAY, JOB! :D
*
Speaking of work, my full-time job is going to make me spend half of the rest of the week -- every day following my lunch break from 3:00-3:30 -- on the phones on the plan I trained on three weeks ago. Which ... I mean, I get it, I only spent two and a half days on the phone and that's not nearly enough time for them to be satisfied with us being on the phones like we have to be when it gets busy, but at the same time the overriding reaction is to mentally throw a tantrum because I haaaaaaaaate being on the phones. I like MY job, damn it, where I sit and do data entry for most of the day and when I do have to make phone calls, I'm calling them, not the other way around.
*
Oh, fandom, are we having another racefail? *sigh*
(Granted, that was some pretty impressive racefailing. Yeouch.)
Also, having seen the one comment on the anon meme about throwing aside "political correctness," I stand by my assertion that every time I see anyone say, "Why can't we just get rid of this political correctness BS?", what they really mean to say just comes off as, "I'm butthurt that no one will let me be a dick in public."

Date: 2010-06-15 12:43 pm (UTC)i abhor the term political correctness and you are so right - and it is always dicks who complain about it.

Date: 2010-06-15 01:00 pm (UTC)I miss Wegman's. Bagging, weighing, and tagging my own veggies always struck me as the ideal combination of dinner and entertainment. But then I am easily amused.

Date: 2010-06-15 01:38 pm (UTC)Really? Because when people say that, that's usually what *I* think they mean, anyway.

Date: 2010-06-16 01:12 pm (UTC)Example: I recently fielded a call at work where the person got more and more upset at my 'refusal' to fold to their demands and then accused me of being racist and politically incorrect.
I don't have magic goggles that see through the phone to see your race! Until you said anything, I had no idea what race you were and was treating you EXACTLY the same manner as any other person who calls in. You called about something I have NO CONTROL OVER. I told you that, but apparently this means I'm attacking you? **sigh** This doesn't change the fact that you're arguing with the wrong office, so claiming I'm racist and then complaining to my boss gets you NOWHERE because he can't help you either!
This doesn't mean I don't want political correctness to exist, just that I don't want people to use it as a tool to get their way. :C

Date: 2010-06-16 06:38 pm (UTC)Did the person speak a non-standard dialect such as AAVE?

Date: 2010-06-16 07:43 pm (UTC)I didn't notice anything about their speech patterns except that they sounded educated (used larger words, had better grammar than I do). If I had noticed anything, I wouldn't have been so startled!

Date: 2010-06-17 02:05 pm (UTC)I can see why, especially in rural Wisconsin. I work hard at covering my drawl for similar reasons, but it escapes me in silly words. 'Pillow' comes to mind!
