Okay, so someone who genuinely means to put down a race or religion isn't worse?

THE HURTS STILL THE SAME, YO. How is that a hard concept to get?

And trying to argue for people who are HURT by something to consider the 'intent' of the perpetrator is just OFFENSIVE AS HELL and puts the focus ON the perpetrator and oppressor's feelings and needs and pov. THAT. IS. BULLSHIT.

I DO NOT CARE what her intent was. She wrote something OFFENSIVE out of sheer ignorance. When there is SO MUCH information to SCHOOL her, her ignorance is, as far as I can tell, completely willful. A choice. It would not have been hard to suss out what exactly was problematic with her fic. She just didn't do any thinking outside her own head and kink-needs to figure it out.

I don't think everybody commenting on this was personally hurt by this author. They're objecting on ideological grounds. I also think you would be surprised how many people do not know the history that makes this story offensive. I'm not even trying to defend this particular author.

And in some cases intent does matter. If you elbow me in the face, it does in fact matter to me whether or not you did it on purpose. And yes, I am going to forgive you if it was an accident and you don't continue to elbow me in the face. If you did it on purpose? Then even if you don't do it to me again, I'm going to be wary of you because I know you hold ill feelings towards me. I understand that intent can be lied about, and it doesn't matter without actions, but intent does matter.

Sometimes intent doesn't matter but sometimes it -does-. Maybe more to some people than others, but there are times when it does matter. Without intent nobody would ever try to do anything. Or try not to do something. Intent is part of our daily lives.
