Would a dealer's warranty cover if you, say, hit a deer with your car and bust your front passenger-side light?

(Luckily, save for a few scratches, that's all I busted. But seriously, STUPID MOTHERHUMPING WHITETAIL I HATE PENNSYLVANIA I WISH I HAD GONE BACK AND MADE ROADSIDE VENISON STEAKS AND YES I DO THINK I KILLED IT AND GOOD BECAUSE I ONLY HAVE $255 IN MY CHECKING ACCOUNT RIGHT NOW AND $143 OF IT IS CAR PAYMENT AND THE REST IS FOR HERSHEY PARK AAAAARRRRRRGH.)

... but, yeah, I'm still under the dealer's warranty, soooo.

Sadly, no. Impact damage tends to be not covered.

Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap.

Words cannot begin to express how much I cannot afford to fix this right now. Well, not and still go to Washington, unless it's suddenly become incredibly cheap to fix a headlight on a 2006 Cobalt.

Impact damage is not a warrenty issue. It would be covered under your collision insurance. If there's no other damage besides the actual light assembly, then the repai is probably not more than your deductable and would be out of pocket. Totally up to you to decide whether to report it or not. Might check with salvage yards in your area for a used part vs new.

It's covered by car insurance. And actually, you didn't hit the deer. The deer hit you. Seriously. That's how the insurance company views it.

I remember one night when we were doing a Buffy/Smallville viewing at senior editor's house a long time ago and one of the other editors was late because he'd hit a deer. That's when we learned that his NY insurance didn't cover "acts of deer."

You might want to take a very close look at your policy, and after some Googling, the PA DMV and Federal Game Commission.

You hit a deer with a Chevy Cobalt, all it did was bust the passenger side light, and you think you killed it? I've seen deer hit head on with Ford F150s (and the older ones so they're not made of plastic) that aren't killed.

But, yes, check with your insurance because they'll probably cover it.

All I know is when you put in your claim DO NOT SAY: 'I hit a deer' It's all in the wording if you say it like that they say you were at fault.

However if you say: 'A deer hit my car when I was driving' then it was out of your control.

F***ing insurance companies.

You could use your insurance. I'm not sure what your deductable is though, it might be more than the repair cost. I second the above mention of a salavage yard. Get a light there and have a handy friend or yourself put in in. Cost will be much less even if you provide dinner and beer.

I'm going to agree with everyone else. Use the insurance. My husband has hit two deer and it was covered both times.
