Okay, so maybe attempting to watch this while I work was a bad idea. Because really, when it comes Wes Anderson's movies, you have to pay extremely close attention to everything. That's not a complaint, of course -- they're so overstylized but in the best way possible, and it's just a lot of fun to dive right into these little worlds he creates and analyze every little detail, right down to the things they put on shelves and the music and the clothes, and it's all stuff that you don't want to miss. So, yeah, trying to work at the same time? Not the best idea I've had this week.

Considering it's up against "Les Mis" for best comedy/musical, I don't expect it's going to win the Golden Globe. I don't expect it to win the Oscar for Best Picture, either, but I would be shocked if it weren't nominated. It's beautiful, it's well-acted, it's everything that a Wes Anderson is supposed to be when he does everything right. I'm more surprised that he didn't get nominated for Best Director at the Globes for this, but then again when you look at who DID get nominated -- Ben Affleck (oh, God, please let him keep directing, he's wonderful at it), Kathryn Bigelow, Ang Lee ("Life of Pi" is his best work in years), Steven Spielberg, and Quentin Tarantino -- who did you kick off that list? I would probably pick Quentin Tarantino if I were pressed if only because, while I haven't seen the movie just yet, I've heard about the flaws and I'm a bit hesitant to go. Still, Wes Anderson did a hell of a job.

The acting all around is brilliant, but the lead kids are incredible. If I were going to pick two kids to head a Wes Anderson movie, it'd be those two. They look like they fit.

I started watching "Lincoln" but I don't think I was in the right frame of mind for three hours of debating about politics -- yeah, I know, I must be sick or something -- because I switched over to "Frankenweenie" about an hour into it. Still, though, from what I've seen so far Daniel Day-Lewis is doing his usual phenomenal job in it, and Sally Field was actually making me like Mary Todd, which is impressive, because reading historical accounts of her always make me feel a bit iffy on her. (I'm inevitably torn between saying "Okay, that's kind of awesome" and "Oh, my God, are you serious, woman?" every time I read something about her.)

Aaaaaand I still have "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" to go for today, which has to be the most incredibly Oscar-baity movie title I've ever seen.

(Ugh, I just remembered looking over the Golden Globe nominations that Naomi Watts got nominated for "The Impossible", or as I've been calling it, "Wait, weren't there any Asian people affected by the Asian tsunami?")
