Punxsutawney Phil is a groundhog, and on February 2, the people in Punxsutawney pretend to take him out of a goofy, stupid groundhog hole. If they say he's seen his shadow, it's six more weeks of winter, and if not, spring's coming soon. It's really pretty inane, when you get right down to it, and looks even more idiotic when you go to Punxsutawney and realize how desperately they grasp onto that one thing they're famous for.
Not that I think it's sad and pathetic or anything. *whistles innocently*
