Redundant, but slightly more official ... U.S. Mulling How to Delay Nov. Vote in Case of Attack

EDIT: And when I say "slightly more official", I mean not at all official, but a slightly stronger link than yesterday's. Or something.

Sounds to me like they're trying to craft a plan for the unwanted and hopefully-never-to-happen, not that they gleefully want to delay elections in case Habib shoots a cab driver in Jersey

More proof that the Bush administration is full of fucktards. ARG.

I need an anti-Bush icon.

So let me get this straight: If the chair of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission can convince the Justice Department to convince Congress to pass new legislation authorizing it, then the government might take steps to reschedule the election in the event of a catastrophe taking place the day before. A move precedented by the suspension of the New York primaries on Semtember 11. Let me see... carry the four... and...

THE ELECTION IS CANCELEED!!1!!! OMGWTF TEH SKY IS FALLING!1!!!11!! BUSH U HORRIBLE MONSTER! MY HED IS PASTED ON YAY!!!!

There, I just thought I'd save you the trouble...

Not necessarily, but how much of a scare and a delay do you think would be necessary to encourage massive vote fraud? Delay a couple of days because of "credible information" about a planned attack somewhere in the U.S. (be as vague as possible to cover all possible areas) and an already jumpy populace goes out to vote and is willing to accept just about anything to get it over with. And a very jumpy police presence will be uninclined to do anything about vote fraud complaints, right?

Any such delay is likely to benefit the Republicans. They don't have to do much, just scare people a bit, and they'll gobble up this country for another four years.

Ok, this is it.

This is treason. This is concrete evidence and planning of Malfeasance. During the CIVIL FUCKING WAR, Lincoln RAN for reelection. Shit, Lincoln ALSO tried to suspend Habeas Corpus, but when the Supreme Court said no, He LISTENED!!!

It is official. George Bush in not a Republican. He is a fascist. He controls what people say and think, suspends rights, steals from the poor to give to the rich...

THIS IS CONCRETE EVIDENCE OF A COUP!

Uh, no... it was a theoretical scenario based on the prospect of a delay in the election. Unless and until such a thing happens, and there is proof that it was planned by the administration, then it is nothing but theory.

Can you look me in the eye and tell me this administration will not do anything in its power to stay in power? They make Nixon look like Lincoln when it comes to dirty tricks!

LOL, well I can't look you in the eye, period. But as far as this administration goes, I know the difference between what I believe is possible and what is proven fact. If there were no difference, we'd all be doing prison time for stuff people thought we were capable of, wouldn't we?

So I say again, my comments theorized a possible scenario which I believe is possible, even likely. They are in no way factual. If they were, you'd better believe I'd be buying Powerball tickets right and left.

The problem comes in that for it to have advanced to the point where it is reported in the news, it is a test balloon to test the reaction and viability.

That's fine. I just don't see it as concrete evidence of anything. YMMV.

When the news isn't scaring me into anxiety attacks, it's making me angry. And when I get angry, Mr. Tweek gets upset. And when Mr. Tweek gets upset...

That is just a disturbing thought.

Anyone think Bush would fake a terrorist attack to postpone the elections??

What is this country coming to?

[livejournal.com profile] indigoskynet brought up a good point -- why should he have to fake one, when now the terrorists know they can stop the best democratic thing we've got with a well-placed bomb?

Hey, sorry for the spam of sorts, but on my lj I wrote an essay-type thing regarding yesterday's freak-outs over the White House spokesperson's statement, and at the bottom of my essay I have a link to the official White House website where the quoted statement comes from. So it actually is official.

On the plus side, they'd never get away with it. There'd be riots in the streets.

I'd be more worried about those absentee ballots. Would everyone have to send them in again? That would make it a lot harder for, say, out-of-state college students to vote. Not that they've historically opposed Bush, of course.
