I called my mother today because her birthday is tomorrow, and she said, "Oh, by the way, Kerry was in Scranton today." And then I squealed and she added, "Ben Affleck was there, too," and I squealed again and she giggled and this is a prime example of why my mother and I get along so much better when we're hundreds of miles away from one another. :)

Also, it was payday today, so off to Suncoast I went. You know why I love Suncoast? (I mean, aside from that I'm in their little frequent shoppers club and they send me nice shiny gift certificates all the time.) It's that I think I'm in love with the "DVDs under $10" rack. It's mostly just incredibly terrifying crap, with the occasional gem hidden among them that practically makes me want to yelp, "WTF is wrong with you people?!" (Case in point -- today, I found "The Ref" there. Under ten bucks? Travesty! And also, MINEMINEMINE!)

The crap, though, is hysterically fun to browse through. There were about a dozen different "Three _____ Classics!" sets that were always three awful demon movies or mysteries or disaster movies that all seemed to star Kim Catrall. Oh, and then there was the delightfully doofy-looking cop thriller starring C. Thomas Howell after he'd been trapped in a cave without a barber and a razor for what looked like about three decades. Also, go buy "Captain Ron", because there were about twenty on that rack and Martin Short could use the money.

I'm thinking about going to see "The Village" tomorrow. The thing is, I know how it ends. And in fact, before I knew how it ended, I had a pretty good idea how it ended. That says a lot, considering I totally bought into the whole "Sixth Sense" thing until the very last minute. At this point, it's either that or a field trip to a museum.

EDIT: As the child of a Thunderbirds fan, the Team America trailer makes me want to hit Jonathan Frakes as hard as I can.

Yeah, I'm always like that with discount movies. I found Stand By Me for $5.99 and almost complained to a manager. This is a modern movie classic! I demand you not send it to merchandise purgatory, except can you ring me up first?

Unfortunately I seem to be able to second-guess Shyamalan pretty consistently. Sixth Sense was the only one I really enjoyed. I thought that was awfully well done. The others I hated.

I love The Ref. Have you seen Rescue Me on FX? It surprised me how very good it is.

I need to know how it ends. I'm not going to see it until I know.

But then I'm going to hie myself to the Hoffman and see Harold and Kumar Got to White Castle tomorrow.

Denis Leary! XD

I saw The Village. I, in fact, did not know how it ended, but was so dissapointed that I wanted to go to the box office and demand my $4.25 back. Thank God for rural-America local theaters... I'm glad I didn't spend any more on that piece of crap than I did.

oh. My. GOD! There's so much wrong with that trailer that I don't know where to begin. I realize that it's "from the creators of South Park", so it's supposed to be offensive, but still!

The monsters are really the elders of the town dressed up as monsters to keep their kids from leaving the town. And the movie isn't set in 1890 -- it's really 2004, but the elders of the town started this tiny town and just pretended it was the 1800s after experiencing horrible losses in their family to modern-day problems.
