Yesterday I called my dad and told him about my Amazon wish list when he asked me what I wanted for my birthday. Score! :)

Then again, the first thing he said was, "Do you have Down Periscope?" And if it weren't for the chlorine he contributed to my gene pool, my immediate reaction wouldn't have been to brightly yelp, "Ooo, no, I don't. You can get me that one!" I shouldn't be so excited my dad threatened to get me a Kelsey Grammer movie. I'm pretty sure giving Down Periscope as a present is a felony in twelve states, but I've decided to justify my desire to get it by pointing out William H. Macy is in it, and he's wearing a jaunty mustache that's probably real.

I think it's sad that my love of submarine movies didn't come with actual taste. Then again, I think it's sad that "Spice Up Your Life" from the Spice Girls is one of my favorite songs, but it doesn't stop me from listening to it.

Yes, well, one of my favorite rides at Disneyland is the submarine ride, so I think we're even on that score. ;)

I was freaked out by it as a kid because of the whole buildup to the monster thing. Then I learned to love the ride and I'm very sad that it's gone now. :(

TP: You're not on crack for loving "Spice Up Your Life" because it's a great example of a booty-shaking song. More songs need to be booty-shakers. I need a whole CD of booty-shaking songs to play at work while I do data entry.

Down Periscope is one of those movies that you look at and think, "It's Kelsey Grammer commanding a loveable crew of misfits on a sub. This is going to generate so much suck could quite possibly create a black hole."

And then you watch it, and there's Nitro and there's the "Louie, Louie" scene, and dang it, it's GOOD.
