My roommate qnotku dared me at the end of last month to write an e-publishable length book (40,000 to 80,000 words) by my birthday on September 29. Hence, Tro(llprincess) No(vel) Wri(ting) Mo(nth). :)
Actually, a lot of that word count is extra bits here and there. I tend to write little stretches of dialogue and short scenes and just string thema all together later.
That makes sense--I've started doing it that way, too, which means I do have the beginning, middle, and end written of some things.... Just not, y'know, completely.
It's like looking at a story skeleton.
Not that 7,800 word chapters aren't on the outside of doable, but someone once advised me that the best way to do chaptering is to try and break it into what someone can comfortably read in one sitting. And then to try and end the chapter so the person feels like they have to read into the next one anyway. *G*
