To do today:

-- Make sure I get my NaNoWriMo account squared away.
-- Pay my phone bill.
-- Buy this.
-- And this.
-- And possibly this.

Yay, shopping!

EDIT: Court Asserts Man's Right to Procreate -- I'll be over in the corner being disgusted with people, if anyone's looking for me.

SLACKER CO-WORKER OF EDIT: I think I may call in sick the last day of November so that I can cheat and have a little extra writing time. Considering I never call in sick, I could so totally get away with it, too. *cackles maniacally*

Well, you've got a whole month to prepare. Look on the bright side -- at least you don't have to finish a novel this month so that you can work on the NaNoWriMo novel next month, like I do. ;)

**cautiously raises her hand**

I told myself I can't ML unless I finish last year's NaNo novel so I can start revising it. And I seem destined to ML. So... you have company.

Hey, hey, relax. This is NaNoWriMo. Remember the motto? "No Plot, No Problem!" Many of the most consistently successful NaNoers I know start out with no idea of what they're doing. Granted, a novel where the main character dies in chapter four, monkeys attempt to take over the earth for no apparent reason in chapter 8, and the entire last chapter is nothing more than a stream-of-consciousness POV from a minor character to nip things over the 50K mark at the last section.... Well, such a novel isn't exactly good, but we're all about quantity, not quality, and you get the same initial win thrill from a 50K thing of crud as you do from a 50K thing you can work on to publish.

(Long-term, of course, the latter tends to make you happier. Last year one (in)famous NaNoite wrote her entire 50K in two days. We were thereafter forbidden to ever speak to her again about it, it was such utter crap. But she did do it, astoundingly enough, which completely surpassed my string of 5-8K days.)

And if it is a problem you'll always find sympathy and commiseration in the "I Hate Myself and Want to Die" forums, home of desperate NaNoers everywhere.

I seriously don't know why no one's explained to this guy that a vasectomy and a box of condoms are both cheaper than the costs of raising a child for eighteen years or the legal fees if you'd rather not help with that.

"No, no. Vasectomy. Va-sec-to-my. No, it's not a religious thing. NO! You can't do it yourself! I-- look, just get one. Please? Or -- wait, here. Just have a rubber.

... you don't know how to use a rubber? Oy vey..."

They're supposed to have the website updated for this year's round sometime later today, I believe.

A friend of mine has Eats, Shoots, and Leaves and she couldn't stop laughing while she read it.

I think I might need to buy that today as well...

You might want to hang on to that procreation right, since it ties in with the whole "right to privacy in the bedroom" thing that has been getting anti-sodomy laws overturned and which was the basis for Roe v. Wade.

As fond as I am of the privacy in the bedroom thing, I'm really wanting the right to procreation to be whittled away at a bit (especially in instances like this, of willful irresponsible breeding without being able to support the resulting offspring). Because right now the stupid people are outbreeding the intelligent ones.
