[livejournal.com profile] tviokh explains here why Bush has lost a vote this election. I want to print this out, hand it to people who say they're voting for Bush, and say, "Why?!"

*sigh* A) The Bush Administration, while outwardly claiming to be impartial in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, has consistently shown brazen bias toward Israel. The Administration quite literally and outright approved of the Israeli atrocities by vetoing AND abstaining on U.N. resolutions, which condemned the Israeli violence.

Excuuuuuse me? I don't see anyone comitting atrocities except yknow, those young men/women with bombs strapped to them detonating themselves on buses full of civilians and schoolchildren.. Uh wait, are those Israelis? Ummm.. NO.

The perpetuation of these kind of attitudes sickens me. If Israel cannot try to capture known Palenstinian terrorists in retalition to monthly, sometimes weekly homicide bombings in which dozens of innocent civilians are killed and hundreds injured, how can America say that the bombings/occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq are justified in light of the tragedy of 9/11? If trying to bring known Hamas and other terrorists to justice is 'violence' and 'atrocities', what the FUCK is the 'War on Terror'?

You want terrorism? Go to Jerusalem, and get on a bus. Ask every single person on that bus if they have had a family member or friend injured or killed in a terrorist attack, and prepare to hear a majority of affirmative answers.

Sorry to rant. I know *you* didn't write it, or state that you agree with that remark.

You know.. you can't claim that Isreal is not also commiting violent acts. I don't necessarily agree that we should have tried to stop them, but they do horrible things to Palistinians. It's not mentioned much in American media, but it's true. I'm Jewish and it's really weird for me to say that, it almost feels like a betrayal, but it's really not the Ireali people, but the government.

I'm Jewish too, and I feel the same way - but it's okay to be Zionist and still criticize Israel. Just like I am American and criticize America.

Still, when I hear blatant lies, I feel like I have to correct them or at least present another perspective.

It may be true that some of the actions by the Israeli military are unwarranted - but I think that if we compare the retaliations to terror attacks by Israel to the retaliations to terror attacks by America.. that there is simply no basis for comparison, to say that Israel is comitting violent atrocities.

I've repeatedly asked my father (very intelligent, well educated) to explain to me why he's going to vote for Bush, and the thing he always falls back on is: "I don't like Kerry." And that's not in a political sense, either. MY father dislikes Kerry as a person. Dad either can't or won't explain why he doesn't, or why that matters, but that's the way it is.

Unfortunately, I think that's the case for a lot of (potential) voters. They actively dislike one candidate or the other, completely irrespective of his political beliefs, and therefore is going to vote for the other guy.
