The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory poster. *squees*

EDIT: I might not agree with the vitriol and the generalization of the whole South being bad, but it doesn't stop this from being a funny rant. :)

LOOPY FANGIRL OF EDIT: Is it Wednesday yet? They just played a radio commercial for The New Gilligan's Island and all I could think was, "OMG, new Lost in two days! *squeals*!"

So the hell what? I can't stand all the "Founding Fathers" bullshit, anyway. Sure, great, good for them, but regardless of history this country will only ever be as good as we continue to make it. No matter what the historical significance of the South, the point is that a lot of its current inhabitants are acting like assholes.

And just so as not to be unfair, so are a lot of the current inhabitants of... pretty much the entire country, really. The backwardness is just a little more obtrusive down here.

What I was answering to was the original writer's opinion that the struggle for independence started in states like Massachusetts, or New York. To suggest that the other colonies simply followed behind those other colonies is ludicrous. The struggle for independence began in all 13 colonies.

As for backasswardness I experienced more racism, intolerance and general asinine behavior when I lived in PA, worked in NY and NJ then I did when I lived in Maryland or now in South Carolina.

The perfect example of asinine behavior is the 4 men who visited the public golf course where I work. All were from New York, all professionals and all asses. They made sure everyone knew exactly what they did for a living, very loudly and very rudely. Why they would think being corporate lawyers, stockbrokers and software designers would impress people is beyond me. They acted like petulant 5 year olds because they could not purchase any alcohol. They did not understand that without a liquor license we are not able to sell liquor or beer on Sundays. It is a state law, and has nothing to do with being southern, Southern Baptists or living in the bible belt.

Many southerners may have voted for Bush but there are just as many that voted for Kerry.
