I like this. It's cute. *g*
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
******
1. Anything off my Amazon.com wishlist.
2. A Hogwarts-esque scarf for any house, although I'm partial to Slytherin or Gryffindor simply for the colors.
3. Donate to Africare or the American Cancer Society or something.
4. Clothes. God, any clothes. I love clothes. (EDIT: Damn, I should have added my sizes yesterday. I'm a medium in tops and clingy T-shirts, a large in baggy T-shirts and hoodies, a 6/7 in pants and skirts, and God forbid anybody wants to buy me shoes, I'm a size seven. My style is pretty much half Old Navy/American Eagle Outfitters and half Hot Topic/Spencer's Gifts, so there's your starting point. :))
5. Another tattoo.
6. The kind of fucked-up fics I like. Comedy-drama disaster crossovers with the weirdest, sexiest pairings. (Also, Charlie/Claire PWP is always welcome, and is in fact encouraged with a great big smile and some embarrassingly childish giggling and even a little toddler-esque bouncing around the room.)
7. Do something really nice for somebody else who isn't me and tell me about it. Hell, do something nice for a total stranger. People everywhere have been fighting waaaaaay too much lately (see: the election, two sports brawls in as many days) and I don't need anything as much as I'd just like to see more people being nice to one another. (Yes, I can be this annoyingly saccharine sometimes. Sue me. ;p)
8. A drawing of any of my original story characters. I'd kill right now to have those art-school-level drawing abilities everybody and their brother seemed to have on Buffy and Angel specifically to draw Sean, Toby, Tig, or Scarlett.
9. Go to somebody else's list and do something for them. Not that I'm complaining, it's just that there are eight hundred people reading this journal right now and if only one person did any of these things for me, that would be waaaaay more than I would ever expect. So, you know, share the love. *g*
10. Mail. I love mail, especially stuff from outside the U.S. Send me a letter or something. Send me music I wouldn't normally hear from other countries, or little tchotchkes I can show off and say, "See this? It came from (foreign land I really want to visit)!"
Hee. I just read over the list, and I think I watched way too much of the Hallmark Channel today. And since it's a wish list, I was going to put "six-pack abs" on there, but I'm going to have to get those myself if I want 'em. :)
If you want to send me something, my email is in my userinfo, but give me a week or so because I've been meaning to get a post office box forever and a day for stuff like this, and this is the perfect opportunity for me to go get one.
See, now you guys have to do wishlists, because I'm feeling all generous and in the holiday spirit. (I'm not sure I'll be able to afford to buy too many things for people, but if something strikes my fancy, I might. And I'm definitely available for fic, mail, and the occasional icon. :))
