-- The more I watch The Bourne Identity, the more I want to write fanfic. Which is bad, because USA Network apparently has nothing better to schedule until it has to show Law and Order: SVU a half-dozen times in a row. (Not that I'm complaining because SVU is the best Law and Order and is another fandom that makes me want to write fic I'm not knowledgeable enough to fake.)

-- I loathe Seinfeld. I've always loathed Seinfeld. Showing me a thousand commercials for the DVD box sets is not making me like it any more, or at all. I hate it for the same reasons I hated Sex and the City -- because the characters are self-centered jerks who don't amuse me in the slightest. (On the other hand, one of my favorite fandoms is Dead Like Me, where the characters are self-centered jerks, but at least they're entertaining self-centered jerks.)

In other news, I've been trying to work on The Monsters of Minooka all day, but all I've been doing is plotting The Vampires of Vandling in my head. I should feel guilty, but some of that stuff is really nice to know beforehand. (And I totally blame Lost and their future episode titles for the snarky bit where Sean gets frustrated and snaps, "We're going to need to have a clause added to the lease. 'You must have this many daddy issues to move into this apartment.'" *snerk* Because it's so very, very true.)

EDIT: Did I mention that I finally got to watch my Spider-Man 2 DVD today after having it for four days and not opening it? No, I don't know how I held out that long, either. :)

I never saw the point of it. Oh look, people with no personalities diong pointless things. The DVDs could have been better used to download and burn porn.

I've always loathed Seinfeld as well, but I also love Sex and the City, so....

Now, Bourne Identity fic - just who would you be pairing? Because the world seriously needs a Bourne Identity with Famke replaced by Elijah Wood, or maybe Orlando Bloom. Or possibly even Jake Gyllenhaal. Playing guys, not playing girls, though Elijah playing a girl might be fun as well.

Drive-by nitpick!

Same feelings on Seinfeld/Sex and the City.

Of course, I've never actually SEEN Seinfeld, but I hate it on principle because everyone else seems to love it.

Trust me, watching it wouldn't improve your opinion.

The only episode I ever liked in the least was the one where they all made the bet about not masturbating for the longest. See, now, that was funny. (Particularly the notorious bit where they made the bet, some woman across the way started doing something sexy, Kramer left the apartment, and he came back about five seconds later, slammed down his money, and said, "I'm out!" That may have been the only true belly laugh Seinfeld ever elicited from me.)

I hate it for the same reasons I hated Sex and the City -- because the characters are self-centered jerks who don't amuse me in the slightest.

::nodding frantically:: I watched two episodes of Sex and the City - it reeked. The characters represented some of the worst people in the universe (self-centered, shallow, obsessed with superficial crap, etc.) Ugh. I can't imagine why folks watched it.

And the clothes. Oh, God, the clothes. Were those supposed to be attractive, 'cause what the hell?! Especially Sarah Jessica Parker and her little shoe fetish. Way to uphold a commonly held chick stereotype as a vitally important character trait there, ass. Grr.

And how the hell was I supposed to identify with those women, for crying out loud? I mean, at least with the characters in Dead Like Me, they're jerks in ways I can understand. They're dead, for Pete's sake, and if I were in their position when they start acting like morons, I'd probably behave the same way. But the characters on Sex in the City wore clothes almost no one I know would wear on a daily basis, have discussions about their sex lives in public places that made me go, "... the hell?", and behaved with whomever they were hooking up with at the time like unreal morons.

And don't even get me started on the Seinfeld characters. Jerry Seinfeld is obnoxious enough on his own, but seriously, ugh.

OMG, there's... (counts comments. reads comments) *five* of us who loathe Seinfeld?

I feel like I've found a true home here. *sniff*

And ditto on Dead Like Me. I've tried to figure out why I love it, because I really should hate the characters. Maybe it's because it mocks death.

The great thing about the whole "mocking death" thing is that even when it's not, it's really great about being gentle and serious about it. Not to mention that it featured one of the sweetest, most realistic gay couples I've ever seen in a show. (Even if it was only for one episode. *sigh* Now I really feel like watching that episode again.)

*adores*

I've always liked you. Really. Now I realize why. Aside from Lost, you have impeccable taste in TV. You understand the total lack of comprehension on why people enjoy Sienfeld.

I was forced to endure Sex and the City whilst in Kuwait. Sarah Jessica Parker's character needs to be shot. Aside from being completely clueless, she dumps the only cool guy she ever dated! (Yes, I saw four seasons.)

And now the Chinese food is here, so I must go. Have a wonderful night, m'amie.

I don't really feel one way or the other about Seinfeld, but I completely agree about Sex and the City. I don't get HBO, so when it came to TBS I was all excited, thinking I'd have something new and fun to watch, since it's so heavily hyped. That was a letdown (but, being me, I kept watching it for a while, always thinking "Okay, maybe this is the episode where it starts getting good!").

And they're dead, which just makes them more likeable. Give me a dead jerk over a living jerk any day. Plus, that Rube--he's not that self-centered. Whereas the self-center people on Seinfeld--Jeez--it's unrelenting. They learn nothing. And go in circles for no reason. Even most people in my real life aren't that bad.

I don't care about Seinfeld one way or another. The show *I* really hated was Friends.

Look! Tons of white people!
Look! HUGE LOFT APARTMENTS IN THE MIDDLE OF MANHATTAN GOING FOR VIRTUALLY NOTHING!
Look! They're all idiots!
Look! DID I MENTION THOSE APARTMENTS????

Tres unrealistic.

Every time I found myself liking Friends the least little bit, the writers totally fucked me over.

You liked Ross and Rachel in season one? Great. We're going to break them up and get them back together over and over again until you want to hit both of them with boat oars. (I've said it before and I'll say it again -- if I had a friend like Rachel who kept running back to a guy like Ross time and again, I wouldn't encourage her they're meant to be, I'd smack her upside the head and ask what the hell was wrong with her.)

You liked Chandler and Monica falling into bed together? Great, we're going to hook them up forever and ever and bore the hell out of them.

You liked that we might try something new by pairing Joey with Rachel? Great, you totally fell for our act, because Ross <3 Rachel 4ever OMG!!1!!

I firmly believe that the Friends writing staff really spent most of their time writing really bad romantic fanfic for other TV shows.

Many moons ago I realized that the sequel to that movie and X-Men both have Brian Cox being killed by the amnesiac assassin guy he used to torment. What that means I have no idea.

Okay, it means I've slept 9 hours in the past 4 days.

Know what's odd? I liked Seinfeld, I really did. I even quote the occasional line(never a yadda though).
I can't watch reruns. Not a bit.

Also, USA/SVU is a firm OTP of mine, particularly when paired with a snarky Russian friend of mine and a styrafoam thing of buffalo wings. You can really never get enough Munch.

I'm starting to think it's like a dirty little secret. I once got into an argument with my mom, who used to make us watch Seinfeld reruns during dinner. When I complained, she said, "You don't think this is funny?" And I said, "NO! These people are obnoxious! Why would I want to watch them for a half hour when I wouldn't even want to stand in the same room with them for five minutes?"

I guess the thing with Seinfeld (or SitC) is that they take for granted that you like the characters even though they're obnoxious self-centered jerks.
While in Dead Like Me...
.:ponders:.
I don't know. Somewhat in DLM it looks like they're not trying to make the characters likeable, so they are, while in Seinfeld they are supposed to be, so they're not.

It makes sense in my head. .:nods:.

Thank you! I thought I was the only one who hated it. A show where the comedy comes from the minutiae of daily life should have been great, but I just can't watch a show where I want to bitch-slap the characters every time they open their mouths.

I have friends who love the show, and when I've said I hate it, they just look at me like I'm missing the Great Comedy Secret Of The Ages.

I'm so glad to see that I'm not alone in my loathing of the show!

I have never liked Seinfeld. I remember watching his standup act on HBO a long time ago, pre-Seinfeld days and thinking, "this guy really isn't very amusing." I can honestly say I've never seen a single full episode of his show.
