Kingdom of Heaven -- Huh, I didn't know this trailer was out already. And it looks like they let Orlando have real facial hair (rather than the clean-shaven look or the wimpy facial hair I've seen him sport so far), which he should really keep because mmmmmmmmmmm.

Chronicles of Narnia -- Okay, it's not a trailer, it's a making-of featurette. But still, DUDE.

The Pink Panther -- *gawks* Uh, I think to offset the stupid, I'm going to have to post a link to the trailer for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Oh, the Pink Panther trailer wasn't that bad. Of course, the only reason I knew about the existence of that movie in the first place was because of the presence of Kristin Chenoweth, the world's most adorable coloratura soprano. :P

And after watching that Earthsea mini-series last week and A Series of Unfortunate Events today, I just want them to get the Narnia books right. Please?

The Narnia clip was lovely - but was I the only one who kept getting rubbing the wrong way by the way he kept calling it "Nahnia"?

And, re: Kingdom of Heaven: Okay, so it's pretty. But am I the only one irked by the glorification of the Crusades?

Actually from what I can gather KoH is Michael Moore cinema. THin allusion to current US foreign policy based a bit on on outdated history and a lot on Walter Scott's novel - "The Talisman."

Upon which Ridley Scott made some cosmetic changes i.e. including the scenes of Muslim abuse of crosses/churches, but overall the theme remains of Crusaders' massacring indiginous population regardless of their religion and the latter banding together to defend Jerusalem against them - also ignoring their religious differences.

None of this is definite, I must hasten to admit. I certainly haven't seen the film, mostly this is conclusion drawn from reviews and articles similar to above.

Overall, however, it seems unlikely to a glorification of Crusades in any form.

Considering the fact that religion is being stripped from His Dark Materials, what do you think are the odds that Narnia is going to make it unscathed? Frankly, I just go back to the animated version of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and remember a time when hypersensitivity didn't rule all decisions.

Stripping the anti-religion from His Dark Materials (please don't get me started on that) is different from stripping the Big Huge Christian Paralells from the Narnia books. Why would they do that? A Christian movie isn't going to get you thousands of instant protesters (and the entire Fox News Channel) ready to kick your ass. Plus the Narnia books are older and better-established than His Dark Materials.

The only reason I can think of that they would get rid of Narnia's religious overtones is as part of a larger campaign to neutralize (more like neuter) it into a Generic Fantasy Story. Kind of like what they did to the poor Earthsea books, which really didn't do anything to deserve such treatment. But the Narnia books are much better-known than those, too, so I'm staying optimistic.
