Feb. 2nd, 2005 12:43 pmIn related movie musings, yesterday they were talking on the Don and Mike show about the most romantic movie scenes ever, which apparently was a poll done by Blockbuster. (And I won't even bother to mention what came up on the list, because all of them were lame.) Do you know what was my favorite romantic moment in the last few years? Ewan McGregor giving Alison Lohman a field full of daffodils in Big Fish. Just ... just ... *swoon*
Also, I bought the Oscars issue of Entertainment Weekly. The photos they used for Jamie Foxx, Johnny Depp, and Clive Owen are so very, very yummy, and I loved the ones they took of Catalina Sandino Moreno and Kate Winslet, but I swear, every photo of Hilary Swank made her look like a crossdresser. Urgh.

Date: 2005-02-02 06:07 pm (UTC)::laugh:: We leaned over to our 11 year old, and said, "If some boy acts like this to you, file a restraining order, sweetie."
I thought "Four Weddings and a Funeral" had several wonderful romantic moments, but my idea of romance probably doesn't jibe with most people's. I loved the character Tom saying "I never expected the thunderbolt. Just hoped I'd meet a nice friendly girl, like the look of her. Hope the look of me didn't make her physically ill. And settle down, raise a family, be happy."
Or the moment in "A Walk in the Clouds" where the male protagonist refuses to have sex because it will hurt the female protagonist...or later, when her father rages to him that "it's not even your baby she's carrying", and he replies, "It is if she'll have me."
Or...from my childhood, the moment from "The Empire Strikes Back" - "I love you." / "I know."
But then, I'm not big on romance - books or movies (you know, enough kissing, get on with the maiming!).

Date: 2005-02-02 06:42 pm (UTC)My favorite movie ending might be Dark City's... which is romantic, in a way. But when I think Seriously Ridiculously Wonderfully Romantic For Reals, I think Big Eden. (Well, I think of a lot of movies. But Big Eden is particularly close to my heart.)
(Er, and hello. Me = random lurker.)

Date: 2005-02-02 07:23 pm (UTC)The movie that should have been on the best endings list in my book? City Lights (see also: most romantic moments list). No matter how many times I watch that movie the end still gets to me.
