Everybody keeps wondering how Hurley's batteries lasted as long as they did. Dude, am I the only person who understands the need to bring an absurd amount of batteries with them everywhere? Granted, that's only if I'm currently using a player that needs batteries (the only reason I'm not carrying around three extra Zen batteries at all times right now is because those suckers are seventy bucks a pop), but still, I listen to my player as much if not more than Hurley and on a long trip, I pack an incredible amount of AAs. And let's not even get into my reaction when I went to FYE and saw they had packs of 48 AAs for fifteen bucks. *swoon* MINE.

So, yeah. I think that's why I'm the only person who's not surprised it took this long for his batteries to die. Hee. :)

Snowing here. ACK. Damn it, Mother Nature, can't you do this crap this weekend when I'm not going anywhere? *shakes fist at sky*

Also, last night, I separated my possible Oscar-marathon movies from all of my other movies. There's a good forty or so piled up in front of my DVD stands. Oh, yeah, I'm prepared for Sunday. All I need now is Smirnoff and junk food, and I've got myself a good, old-fashioned Oscar Day Movie Marathon. *g* (Oh, and this morning, I watched a clip of Adrien Brody winning his Oscar and kissing Halle Berry. *snerk* That made me happy.)

EDIT: An article that sums up my problems with the Best Song category. I especially agree with that one bit about "Belleville Rendez-Vous" from Triplets of Belleville, because hell, I've still got that music file around somewhere.

This is currently #1 on my list of things people need to stop fucking saying immediately. Hurley probably had dozens of batteries in his carryon. And of all the things to gripe about, that is not a good one. STFUOMGNAFTA!

I know! It's goddamn killing me with people bitching about it, and that's especially considering that part of me was like, "You ran out after only a month? Hmph. Amateur."

Hurley seems like the kind of guy who'd prepare for that kind of thing in the same obsessive-compulsive way that I do. And if I were going on a plane to Australia and could splurge for the portable DVD player attachment that makes it so you can run the thing off batteries, I'd have one bag for clothes and one bag for AAs.

It's a billion hour flight. You're damn right he had extra batteries!

People baffle me, TP.

See, I hadn't even thought of him bringing that many extras. And then I'd thought that the batteries could have been thrown anywhere. Cause I'm a dork who only carries one spair pair in her purse. lol.
And I love the fact that the week after I make a post about the batteries is when his batteries die. I'm like, "my bad everyone, I made his batteries die!" heh.
*nerd*

Besides, with surviving a plane crash that should have killed everyone and Locke being Wily Wonka's Evil Brother and POLAR BEARS and compasses going insane, a long-lasting battery ain't so suprising.

Ya know what my favorite thing last night was? Hurley on the TV the little Korean girl was watching when Jin went (the first time) to deliver the message (it WAS him, wasn't it?). My kids were like, Why are you laughing? This scene doesn't seem funny! Me: Him! He's on the TV. Them: Um, yeah, mom? The whole show is on the TV. Me: No, I mean, he...never mind.

Re: batteries--PLUS, if he actually has kazillions of dollars, he could afford the expensive batteries and a lot of them. Plus, it hasn't been fourteen weeks or whatever. More like a month, maybe.

It's like I said in [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's LJ -- he must have won a shitload of money if they were showing him on Korean TV. I think we're seriously talking Powerball cash here.

And what drives me crazy is that I think not only does his owing Walt $83,000 -- *snerk* -- make for a nice little bit of trivia if you know what's coming up in "Numbers", but I think it's a good display of the bad luck that's supposed to have followed him after he won.

I agree with the Best Song article, too. But I'm biased, as I still sing along with "Accidentally in Love" at the top of my lungs whenever it pops up on Winamp.

See, "Accidentally in Love" is the only Best Song nominee I like this year. Then again, it's the only one I've heard this year, which explains a lot.

I was so disappointed that Eminem didn't perform when he won for "Lose Yourself", but I guess I can't have everything. It was impressive enough that they even bothered to nominate a popular song or something with an actual beat to it. You don't even want to get me started on how grumpy I was last year because I seriously wanted "School of Rock" to get nominated. Damn it, I liked that song, and it was important to the plot, too. *grrr*

According to TV Guide, Patrick Stewart actually rehearsed Lose Yourself in preparation to perform it for the Oscars.

I love Patrick but I gotta say I'm glad that didn't work out.

Yes! I at the very least carry an 8 pack of AAs with me on a short trip, and a plane trip like Sydney to LA I'd have... a lot more than that.

And those things only take two batteries at a time anyway.

I'm just a little surprised he didn't have a solar battery charger with him. Maybe his broke just before the flight and he didn't have time to replace it.

Which would also explain him only having a month's worth of AAs -- he was hesitant to buy a lot of them at airport-store prices.

*shrugs* Dunno, I admit I didn't hear the "Belleville Rendez-vous" more than twice or thrice because I didn't like it much, but I can't even remember the tune. Strangely, I remember the other songs, although I didn't like all of them and they aren't exactly what you'd call catchy tunes. I also know a lot of people who know the full text of "Into the West". Then again, I know a lot of people who are "cape-wearing, Renaissance-festival-attending, EverQuest-playing, eight-sided-di[c]e-throwing obsessives". Well, minus the EverQuest. And the dices are usually twenty-sided. And there are no Renaissance-festivals in Germany. And the capes are worn only on a few occasions annually. But anyway.

The article has good points, though. I'd probably agree with most of it if I weren't so pissed of at being considered some sort of freak for remembering "Into the West". Gnah. Sorry for ranting this off here, I know you didn't write the article...

You know, I'm pulling for The Chorus in the best song category for the same reasons she listed - it's a really good song and it works into the plot. For me Accidentaly in Love is like Shrek 2 in the Animated Feature category - fun and peppy, but not exactly Oscar-worthy.

As for Into the West last year, I think that was the only song in the category I didn't like. *shakes fist at Oscar*

Honestly, that article just makes me feel like an idiot wrote it. Anyone who actually knows how to listen to music can tell that "Into the West," musically and thematically, is just as integral to its film as "Belleville Rendez-Vous" was for its. Also I have no respect for anyone who can't even write the movie title they're discussing properly. (Triplets of Belleview? Hello, editor?)

Also, insulting all my friends and writing them off as a subset of humanity is not going to do a writer any favors getting on my good side.

But anyway, its one thing to disagree with most of the wins; I do, too. But this writer just ticked me off so much that I didn't even make it to the end of the article.

Bah. The songs from Lord of the Rings and Cold Mountain were unbelievably boring, so of course one of them got picked. Anyway, I'm not bothering with the awards this year, so whatever. :) If they decide to nominate Ray over Eternal Sunshine, I'll be studying for midterms, thank you very much.

Dude, I have a twenty-pack--no jokes--that I take with me everywhere just in case. And each one lasts about 6-8 hours depending on the type, so I can totaly see the CD player staying that long.

From: [identity profile] clex_monkie89.livejournal.com
I forgot to also mention that that's just for my normal trips, which consist of at a maximum one-hour trips to the mall.

A fifteen or so hour flight? Would consist of: a portable DVD player, my laptop, spare batteries for both, my CD player, my brothers CD/MP3 player, MASSIVE amounts of batteries for both, and 3 pairs of head-phones (Just in case).

Of course I'm the type of person who brings two huge bags of books and drawing things with me for an overnight trip to my grandmother's house. Wherein I'll only spend an actuall 2 hours awake.

Re: The batteries?

It also depends on what his cd player's battery time is. Mine takes two AA batteries and has a continuous playtime of 32 hours, and like nearly everyone else, I always take extra with me. Depending on the length of the trip and all that, anywhere from 8-24. I rarely use more than 6, but I always feel better about having them with me.

Re: batteries.

Everyone makes fun of me cuz I take a perverse amount of batteries with me for my CD player and/or my MP3 player (AAs for the CD player and AAAs for the MP3 player). They wouldn't be laughing at me if I were on that island with the supply. *smirk* I think I'd be a lot of people's best friend.

And, ok, I liked Into the West.... and am I the only one not overly-excited about the Oscars this year? 'Course, my main interest in them over the past 3 years was LOTR...

Reading all these comments, all I could think was "damn that's a lot of money on batteries" For my CD player at work I only have 4. They're rechargable, so I've always got a pair charged & waiting.

Date: 2005-02-27 12:49 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jedilora.livejournal.com
I actually have the CD player Hurley's got, and let me tell you, that thing is incredible at battery life. I might go through a pair in a WEEK, and if it were legal, I'd be in a common-law marriage with it.

I do, however, use rechargeables, simply so I can swap out batteries from my digital camera. Now THAT'S a battery eater.
