... the fuck?

In other news, woke up this morning and flipped on the TV to see a Lost piece on one of the morning shows. And I saw Daniel Dae Kim and Matthew Fox and Harold Perrineau and then they showed Jorge and I officially lost it. *squees* Okay, so if I'm wearing my T-shirt that says "hurley" on it today, exactly how much of a raving fangirl does that make me?

Also, for the record, so far I'm liking this season of The Amazing Race. I really wish some of the teams would stop whining about how Rob and Amber are a threat (including Rob and Amber), but aside from that, it's already wiping the last season from my mind, thank God. :)

You and me both. And thankfully, as annoying as some of these teams might end up, I don't think any of them will be near the Jonathan-esque level of asshattery.

Amen. So far, the team I like the least is Ray and Deanna, and while they're bitchy, they're not as bad as Jonathan. Hell, they're not as bad as Kendra, although that could change. (Although, honestly, that crack last night about Lima looking like downtown Baghdad was just tacky and insulting. Lima looks like a war zone? The Lima tourist board thanks you for that kind assessment, Ron. Sheesh.)

Agreed. I wasn't a big fan of Team POW from the get-go, and that made it worse. I'm not huge on Ray and Deanna either, but I'm hoping Meghan and Heidi go next. They just seem so... unnecessary.

Oh, yes. I kept confusing Barbie Squared and Questionably Lesbians, and I can't even tell them apart just yet in between them in both teams. And okay, I can't tell Brian and Greg apart, but they're cute and snarky, so I forgive. :)

I can only pick out one member of Questionably Lesbians (hee!) because of the red hair. And Brian and Greg.... mmmm :) Loved the moment with them last night coming across the 7:00 pile.

"Ain't seven before seven-forty?"
"Where I grew up, yeah."

Aaaaaand then I died. *giggles*

The red hair is helping somewhat, but of course, now I have to figure out which one the redhead is. (So far, the only thing I'm sure of is that it's her fault that they're Questionably Lesbians. ;))

God. I heard that on my drive it and was once again yelling at the radio. Thank you, DHS, for wasting my money on something completely fucking pointless.

If you go right to the end of the clip (8:14) , you'll hear:

Cerda says that the department will experiment with the monitors for at least six more months, and if they like the results then homeland security might require every non-citizen who is not in jail to wear one, at least for a while.

It will take me several minutes to calm down enough to rant. This morning I just about drove off the road when I heard that one.

So far, the Department of Homeland Security has put electronic monitors on more than 1,700 immigrants. Victor Cerda, director of Detention and Removal Operations at Homeland Security, says the anklets will help prevent tens of thousands of immigrants who are ordered to leave the country each year from "absconding" -- going into hiding to avoid deportation.

Tens of thousands? Each year? Somehow, I think this is a slight exaggeration. I seriously doubt at least the 20,000 per year somewhat implied by that statement are both denied asylum and choose to try to stay. In the last 25 years, there have only even been 20,000 persons denied asylum in ten of those years. Well. 24 years, 1980-2003.

Furthermore, as upwards of 80% of applicants in that time have been approved for asylum (1,907,502 of 2,374,277), it's just silly to toss ankle bracelets on all 2.4 millions of them. Even if you don't think it's a good way to improve the perception foreign=criminal, and so forth, it's still just silly.

This is, at least, what I get from a quick glance at this stuff http://uscis.gov/graphics/shared/aboutus/statistics/RA2003yrbk/RA2003list.htm

My husband works with asylum seekers as part of his Law School clinic work. All of his clients are law abiding citizen who want nothing more than to be in a country where they are safe. Almost all of them are Christians (not that it should matter, but to this administration it seems to). It disgusts me that DHS treats people this way.

::sigh:: Every day, in every way, Dystopia gets realer and realer.

How long do you think it'll be before the PTBs try to censor/ban Fahrenheit 451, 1984, Catch 22, Animal Farm and the like?

They're also doing that to kids in an elementary school, "in case they get lost going to the bathroom." I lost the link, though.

I like them so far. Fifth place in the first leg is pretty good for the token older couple. Heck, last year, Don and MJ never placed about seventh, I think. :)
