House GOP Fails to OK Schiavo Legislation -- "I hope we're not ... making this human tragedy a political issue," said Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. "We've got plenty of other issues that are political in nature for us to fight about."

Head, meet desk. Over, and over, and over again.

Over, and over, and over again.

Now I have "Sick Cycle Carousel" stuck in my head.

::stares::

is he being - funny? Or obtuse? Or asking for a smack upside the head?

You must have sturdy furniture...

We wouldn't want the Senate to discuss political issues- let's put them in charge of aesthetics.

What's the back story? *is confused*

I think that it's called "trying politely to shame people into not acting like assholes". It does sometimes work, though I'm fairly certain that it won't in this case.

Of course it won't. They'd never repsond to something so -- well for them - subtle.

Ok I got it now. But why is this such a big deal? I mean, how did it get to be such a large issue that the government is getting involved?

Well, first there were lawsuits. And then Jeb Bush got stuck his nose in. And then the Florida Senate got involved. And then Dubya got involved, and THEN Congress got involved. Meanwhile, both sides of the family have said, "Well, we really don't like how the politicians have turned this into a huge issue for votes, but quick, run and call your senator lots of times to make them vote for our side!" (That's not even counting the rabid right-to-lifers who have decided that abortion is out and fighting for Terri Schiavo is in.)

And that's how something that should be in family court and have ended a long time ago is still going strong.

Oy vey, McCain. I love the way you vote, most of the time. I voted for you on the strength of that. But you should not be allowed to use words sometimes.

Ahh, that sounds more his style than just being a jackass. Yay McCain!

Part and parcel of the same thing, IMO. It's putting the existence of life well over the quality of life and it's meddling in how other people make life choices, and, as a plus, it's throwing a medical burden on someone else, so it's not like you have to actually, oh, help out with money instead of just spending $5 on posterboard and a magic marker so you can violate someone else's Consitutional rights show the world what a wonderful Christian you are in direct violation of Matthew 12 and therefore are better than them.

OK, I wondered why you were annoyed until I clicked the link, and the headline was along the lines of "Senate GOP Succeeds to OK Shiavo Legislation". So it was all very bizarro there for a moment.

I hope he's being deliberately vague. You know, to keep the right-to-lifers from shooting him and to keep Congress from... uh, also shooting him.

From AOL: Republicans defined their extraordinary efforts in the context of the sanctity of life: "A society is judged by the way that it treats its most vulnerable citizens," said Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind.

Right... right. Did he burst into laugher after saying that?

But only when those citizens make the newspapers.

The poor of course, don't count.

I'm surprised he didn't burst into flame after saying that.
