Student suspended over phone call to mom in Iraq. *eye roll*

EDIT: So the Goblet of Fire poster is out, and while I think it's gorgeous and all ... um, please tell me I'm not the only one whose second reaction was, "Isn't that missing a comma? And maybe a period?"

Um, WTF. Yeah, we're not trying to cause her any undue hardship, except that we're not letting her talk to her son at probably the only time she can call...we're not letting the boy hear from his mother, because god knows parental influences are worthless...and forget about having to go to school.

I always thought suspension was pointless. Unless your parents are home 24/7 to both get pissy and enforce the punishment, you're basically told, "You don't have enough discipline! Go home, where you'll be ALONE all day, so you can go fuck off there and we won't have to deal with you." (Once, a friend of mine was suspended for cutting herself in school. This is why I hate administration.)

My senior year of high school, they tried to threaten us all with three days suspension if we went through with Senior Skip Day without actually seeing the idiocy of that.

I once got detention for fighting back ( a stupidity in an of itself ). Detention consisted of sitting in a room with the other thugs. And being allowed to read fiction.

Hell and damnation, it was HEAVEN.

My highschool switched to *in-school* suspensions where you basically sat in a room all day and could only work on homework. No other outside material. I heard it was hellish.

I heard it was hellish.

YES. I only had the pleasure once, but ow. I think that they even gave us special homework, because otherwise we won't have had enough to last all day.

I bet the principal has at least 2 yellow "Support Our Troops" ribbon magnets on his car. Probably the one with the American flag AND the cross on it.

Doesn't it seem like undue hardship that the school can't make an exception for someone with a legitimate scheduling issue? I mean, my god, I'm all for not having mobiles in class, but when someone's calling from Iraq, where they're serving in the military that seems just the wee tiniest bit unreasonable.

And now, of course, she knows that the school suspended her son for talking to her. No undue hardship on her, certainly. Not at all.

no, I had the same reaction to the GOF poster. :-) I have an unhealthy preoccupation with punctuation, though.

as to the link, there are no words. just, damn. and did you see [livejournal.com profile] twinkledru's post regarding the church that excommunicated its members who voted for Bush? That was twenty miles away from where I went to school. The world is filled with asshats.

Sooner or later, that church is going to kick out everyone.

Asshats who should lose their tax-exempt status for not staying non-partison but probably won't because they kicked out Democrats and not Republicans.

Yes, I also had the same reaction to the poster. I'm allergic to bad grammar.

Um...yeah...at least it's better than their first poster (visually). Now they just have stupid grammar issues. You'd think someone was supposed to check it before it was sent out...

I first read it as 'Difficult times lie ahead of Harry' and wondered where you thought the comma should go. And then re-read it and wanted to hit whoever wrote it.

I saw that news article too. *headdesk* What... the... FUCK? Poor kid. I have a feeling any teenager would use profanity too if they got dragged to the office.

... *stares at poster and jaw drops*... *sputters* Aren't there people who are suppose to CHECK for these things?!

Notice how the student went from defiant to out of control in one breath? Slimy little principal.

I predict the principal will roll over and issue a public apology once he recieves enough hate mail.

It's happened before in sooo sooo many other similar cases.

Then there would've been an 'of'. It's just grammatically incorrect.

How soon until the school issues an apology, does a complete 180 and kisses sufficent ass to avoid a lawsuit?

P.S. The school's address, phone number and email is already out on LJ

My first reaction was "AHAHAHHA KEVIN BACON" because I saw it on [livejournal.com profile] hownovel's LJ first, and then I thought it was cool, but the grammar one was third. Ouch. (I have this Reservoir Dogs poster in my room that says "Lets go to work.")

The poster? Sadly, my first reaction was 'Are those Quidditch robes? Why is he wearing Quidditch robes? THERE IS NO QUIDDITCH IN THE FOURTH BOOK! .... That better be the Champions' uniform, or something.' Psychotic undertone included.

It's definitely a lovely poster. Although I had to look twice to convince myself that yes, the "Potter" and "4" were hanging on the correct surface and not floating somewhere behind his back.

And no, you're not the only one. And I'd lose the quotation marks as well, but that might just be me.
