Okay, so a little more detailed post of my thoughts on tonight's episode.

Okay, first off, Gary. NTAC's use of Gary's telepathy to get exactly what it needs without giving him much of a choice about the whole thing looks to be a bit of a tipoff as to what's going to get them "punished" in the long run. The government is starting to look at these people not as people, but as objects or weapons to be used to get exactly what they want. Allowing them to live their lives without interference as the Powers That Will Be indicated in their talk with Tom last season doesn't seem to be in the cards if NTAC's in control, and that's got to be where the punishment comes into the picture.

Then again, think about where the Powers That Will Be dropped their great big ball of light off, or more aptly, when they left it. They may have left it at a specific turning point in history, but they also dropped it at a time in this nation's history when the issue of the government interfering with the privacy of its citizens is a big concern (like with the Patriot Act). The PTWB already spent last season garnering sympathy for the 4400 in the public eye. If it gets out that NTAC and the rest of the government are perfectly willing to manipulate or blackmail the 4400 to do secret little missions or whatever they have planned for them, that might not go over so well.

Which brings up a creepy thought -- what if Jordan knows something the rest of us don't? (Perhaps because of Isabelle's attack on him?)

Which brings up an even creepier thought -- what if Jordan is really the good guy?

Okay, so he probably isn't. But just imagine that scenario. If the 4400 really are meant to do something to save mankind, and "We're in a war", and the government becomes fixated on using the 4400 for ... whatever they want, pretty much, then if Jordan turns out to want to protect the 4400, that makes him the good guy, and that could get reeeeeeeeally interesting.

But like I said, probably won't happen.

It makes me wonder, though. What if Jordan were supposed to end up with Isabelle? Obviously, it's a bad idea, and also obviously, it's not going to happen. But think about it. Lily's already shown a tendency to gloss over Isabelle's more dangerous inclinations. Richard is distrustful of his own daughter. Isabelle has to be meant for great things, and you have to wonder about a future civilization that would create a child who can kill without compunction. Okay, she's a baby and doesn't know any better, but ... the hell? That's like leaving out a bomb with a big red button on the top that says, "Push this!" And Lily doesn't seem all that eager to discourage her from doing things like that, while Richard spends most of his time around her all suspicious and hesitant.

And there's another thing concerning Gary that's curious. It's the same thing that's weird about Tess's power suddenly kicking in -- that it took them this long before their abilities manifested. If their abilities stem from some sort of dormant neural pathway thing, then why weren't they on from day one? Do they all have some kind of biological egg timer that goes off exactly when they're supposed to be manipulating history for the Powers That Will Be?

But anyway, back to Isabelle, or more specifically, what she did to Richard. What the hell did she do to him? Let's see, what are the options --

1.) It was a warning pain. "Don't piss me off, Daddy. I WILL FUCK YOUR SHIT UP HARDCORE."
2.) It was a flash of impending danger, the same kind of painful alarm that she used to give Lily in utero.
3.) It was a flicker of her making him do exactly what she wanted him to. "Now, Daddy, no more arguing. Let's just stop fighting and GET IN THE GODDAMN TRUCK."

I'm really afraid it's #1, but that seems the most likely option at this point. I'd like to think it's #2, but I highly doubt it. As for #3 ... okay, that would just be really fucking creepy.

And off to Maia, who really needs Diana to sit her down next week and say, "Listen, sweetie, you don't have to tell me predictions if you don't want, because you're my daughter and I love you and I'm not afraid of that. But if you don't want people to bug you about the clairvoyant thing, then just don't say anything, which you've been doing perfectly well for the last few months." Because, seriously, that kid needs someone to stand there and go, "You be exactly who you want to be and I won't judge you or use you," and I have a feeling having Aunt April around isn't going to do a hell of a lot to help with that if she figures out about the clairvoyant abilities.

As for Shawn ... starting to feel a little distrustful of Jordan, sweetie? I do really wish Gary had mentioned the thing about "we're in a war" in front of Shawn, but I get the impression he's not supposed to know about that. Although, if he had, I'm not exactly sure that he would have done anything about it, especially with Tom and Diana barging in like that. He's just going to keep butting heads with Tom at this rate just because he can and because the two of them are so incredibly stubborn.

And there's Jordan, who up to this episode has:

-- planned a coup in a foreign country in a presumed attempt to get the 4400 their own island nation.
-- started some weird pseudo-Scientology knockoff with Shawn as its public prettyboy and private messiah.
-- written a book which told the world exactly who and what the 4400 are.
-- spent a great deal of time and effort to get his hands on Isabelle.

So, wait -- what good reason did the PTWB have for taking Jordan and sending him back again?

That thought about what it'd be like if Jordan were really a "good guy" isn't exactly outside the realm of possibility, although it probably won't happen. But still, the thought ... it establishes the First Annual All-Week Plotbunny Fuck-O-Thon in my brain.

Hee. This show makes me ponder weird plotlines like mad. ;)

I love this show. And honestly ...? I suspect Jordan is a good guy -- or at least thinks of himself that way (no one is all black or white). He actually did seem upset over the (real) bad guy. Maybe it was just things getting out of hand, but I suspect Jordan is both overly confident in his own abilities, but (in his own weird way) really does intend to help. It's just that he's got gray morals. He'll do what it takes, and is old enough and experienced enough to realize that sometimes there's no "right" choice, only the less wrong one.

Anyway, just a theory. (g)

Isabelle scares the shit out of me. Babies are extremely selfish creatures, just by nature. At some point, she's going to get pissed off at Daddy and Mommy, which we may have seen a foreshadowing of tonight. We'll see.

I do find myself wondering how much is scripted out, and how much is coming off the cuff, ala Chris Carter. ;>

I watched part of last week's episode earlier in the day, but didn't see the opening credits.

When I tried to watch the new episode, I couldn't. First, there was the baseball guy, totally unable to shut off or comprehend the overwhelming telepathic noise in his head. Then the opening credits, in which it was made especially clear how these people were all so callously yanked out of their lives...

...and I became enraged. Human beings are not animals to be experimented on or fucked around with like this. Whoever did it, aliens, a future "human" society, whatever, was so goddamned evil for messing over these peoples' lives I couldn't stand to watch any further.

To me, this is like watching the aftermath of Dr. Mengele's experiments for entertainment.

I'm sorry, this is in no way a criticism of you or anyone else who is intrigued by the story. It just pushed one of my buttons really hard.

I don't think I'll be watching any more episodes.

What really gets me about Jordan is that I truly do think he's trying to do what he thinks is right, but I also think he's going about it the wrong way. He is suspicious of NTAC, like Maia seems to be, but then again, all of the abductees have good reason by now to be suspicious of them. The thing is that Jordan's actions have all leaned towards trying to separate the 4400 from everybody else -- put them in a housing development together, get them on an island together, etc. His motivations are a lot like Magneto's -- he wants to help the 4400, but damn everybody else. (To be honest, though, if the Powers That Will Be were telling the truth on the beach, they don't seem to give a damn about the others, either. Look how many innocent bystanders have died so far for their stupid future.)

Isabelle just ... GYAH. I love her to pieces because she interests the hell out of me, but the phrase "I WILL FUCK YOUR SHIT UP" has never been more apt.

I had another weird thought last week after one of the NTAC agents made a crack about Jordan promising people in his book that they too could have a 4400 power. Eventually, he might have to own up to that, and if he bribed another NTAC agent and found out about Kevin, I could totally see him funding his research in an effort to get results with that dormant neural pathways thing and cover his ass. Then again, that could more of a fanfic idea than a show idea, but whatever. It'd be interesting to see, anyway. ;)

This is the first show since the X-Files that I've felt much inclination to read fanfic for. I also really liked the brief-lived show "Touching Evil," but not much fanfic was produced, and it wasn't on any length of time. (Too bad; the lead actor was amazingly talented, but most of the rest of the cast didn't really grab, which may have been part of its problem.)

But yes, Jordan reminds me a lot of a young (and less overtly obsessive) Magneto. (Hmmm, I wonder how much of my interest in the show has to do with the fact it has certain X-Men-ish overtones without the spandex?)

Anyway, I'm very interested to see where this goes, and may actually invest in getting the first season on DVD. (g)

Is it me, or was Isabelle totally saying "Maia!" when she was crying?

Bit late I know, but I was pretty sure Isabelle answered Richard's question and that is what made him go all fainty like. You know he asked "what are you babygirl?" SO she told him. Now though hearing some other theories, I'm not so sure.

Oh, I would love it if that's what she did. I really don't think she's evil or anything, or that she'd ever hurt Richard. *crosses fingers that this is all it was*
